Hello everyone,

Just bought a used cron-r with no uv filter. What is the filter size of a 1969 Summicron-R 50mm, Wetzlar Edition. The generic front lens cap is 46mm.

I just realized the R is a very good lens, being an M shooter.

Thanks in advanced.

-Ron

It will be a version 1 which takes a series VI filter, a glass disc held in by a retaining ring. This Forum's Wiki gives further details such as the number of cams from the serial number and the part number of the retaining ring. If you are using it with an EVF and adapter on an M camera the cams are not relevant.

Thanks for the reply masjah,

Is this correct from another forum that it's a 44mm? If so... gee it's as odd-ball as my Noct ver 2. Now a used Leica UV OEM push on-off is more expensive than my lens.

Thanks for the reply.

Cheers,

Best just to talk in terms of Series VI rather than actual diameter. I think the glass disc (it also has  a black ring in which the glass is mounted) is about 41 or 42. You drop this into the front of the lens, then screw on the retaining ring, which is about 44 or 45 I think.

I'll be shopping for an R to compliment my M3, M6 and M7 rangefinders. Just can't travel without a B&W film handy :)

Thanks guys for the help, it's good to be back!

Best
