Due to the introduction of the new Leica TL2 the ‘old’ TL is currently sold with a discount.

The difference in price is substantional (for me anyway). The TL is sold for around 1.000 euro the TL2 is almost 2.000 euro.

My dilemma is if I should by a the old TL with a discount or should save for a TL2.

Does the current update this difference?

It sounds like the TL2 and CL will both be selling in parallel, which may depress the price of the TL even further.  But the TL2 is supposed to be much better than the TL (more resolution, faster AF, etc.)  Why not wait two weeks, and then visit a store and try them all.  Stores often have the newly announced products available at announcement.  Leica won't let them sell their demonstrators for some period of time.

There were substantial improvements between the T and TL vs the TL2 in performance and IQ. However, the T and TL cameras are no slouches and getting them at the current discount is a steal. If you have the cash, I would go for the TL2. I have two Ts, one converted to infrared, and enjoy both. But I am patiently waiting for a used TL2 to show up once the latest camera is introduced.

If the choice is a T or TL rather than a TL2, in the USA, a pre-owned T (99% identical to the TL) can be purchased for $600-700, a much better option than a TL for 1,000 Euros, and one that I would certainly choose. (Check out Leica Miami, for instance).

My thoughts: buy the T, make certain you like its interface and then when ready sell it for a minimal or no loss and opt for the TL2.  Image quality on the T is excellent.

Yes, the T drove me nuts as well. I loved the interface, but it’s operation was clunky and slow and ultimately too frustrating for me. Image quality was very good, though. Those 16MP sensors give very organic looking files.
