TroubleTea Posted November 11, 2017 Share #1 Posted November 11, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, today I have bought, what i thought is a Leica III Mod. F. But is has some characteristics of some other models like the Leica III f. Maybe we can figure out what Model it is. Serialnumber says its a Leica III BTW. Dr. No Posted November 11, 2017 Share #4 Posted November 11, 2017 Late synch conversion (with new cover and "DBP") of a Leica IIIa (G). To be recognized at the 1/1000th shutter speed. the camera is from 1938, used to be a Leica III, than converted into an f-model and now called: IIIa syn
halo Posted November 11, 2017 Share #5 Posted November 11, 2017 That's what the SN says, but how do you explain the 1000th of the shutter? Shutter conversion during the sync conversion? It is hard to say as the short shutter speed is the only thing to keep III and IIIa apart.

jerzy Posted November 12, 2017 Share #8 Posted November 12, 2017 as Olaf wrote this is late upgrade, mid fifties or later. During upgrade almost all parts, including shutter have been replaced matching the contemporary production. Leitz Umbau Katalog specifies even that upgrades to II syn received as well 1/1000. Some parts were even produced for upgrade purposes only, like top cover (at that time model III was discountinued). So I am pretty sure that the camera has, among other details the curtain brake adopted from IIIc (and existing in only few IIIa from postwar production). Upgraded Leicas is a fascinating topic. Sentences below are not intended as self-avertisment, rather than as sharing information. I do really hope that Admin person will not delete it. Occasionaly I am writing articles about Leica convertions to be published in Viewfinder and Vidom. I am doing it on non-commercial basis. Vidom which shall appear December this year shall have article about 2 completly differnt looking conversions into III/IIIa, one prewar and one postwar. If anyone is interested and does not receive neither Viewfinder nor Vidom send me PM with your email address and specify language (english or german) and be aware that the size of document is aprox 14MB
