battery removal

Leica manuals for M10 and Q suggest removing the lithium battery if the camera is not to be used for some time. But what is your understanding of a short period of non-use – a few weeks, or two or three months, before needing to remove battery? Would welcome advice here.

You risk killing the internal battery that powers everything in absence of main battery.   it is not user replaceable.

Leica may be worrying about battery failing or enlarging or catching fire.  OTH there may be a safety circuit that keeps the internal from full discharge.  Leica throws out this language that needs interpretation.  Guess ink is expensive.

My nikon D3`s are my only cameras that have the small internal user replaceable.  Never had a D4 or D5. It is in roof of battery compartment.

My procedure is two battery and change to a fully charged one once per month .

Yes leakage was a prob with Zn-Carbons particularly. IIRC had some corrosion with a NiCad once too.

Just a side question...

I leave my laptop on plug in charger all the time...dont use it much. Will this deteriorate the battery, or does the cut-out circuit stop this problem?
