microview Posted November 3, 2017 Share #1 Posted November 3, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Leica manuals for M10 and Q suggest removing the lithium battery if the camera is not to be used for some time. But what is your understanding of a short period of non-use – a few weeks, or two or three months, before needing to remove battery? Would welcome advice here. tobey bilek Posted November 4, 2017 Share #2 Posted November 4, 2017 You risk killing the internal battery that powers everything in absence of main battery. it is not user replaceable. Leica may be worrying about battery failing or enlarging or catching fire. OTH there may be a safety circuit that keeps the internal from full discharge. Leica throws out this language that needs interpretation. Guess ink is expensive. My nikon D3`s are my only cameras that have the small internal user replaceable. Never had a D4 or D5. It is in roof of battery compartment. My procedure is two battery and change to a fully charged one once per month .
david strachan Posted November 4, 2017 Share #3 Posted November 4, 2017 It's such a pity the Li batteries have made us all so nervous. I don't remember any Zn-Carbon or Ni-Cad batteries causing any problems in use, storage or recharging. ...
4pipes Posted November 4, 2017 Share #4 Posted November 4, 2017 Except those other batteries had a memory.
RonM Posted November 4, 2017 Share #5 Posted November 4, 2017 I am not sure if the removal suggestion is because it is a lithium type battery, or if it is to prevent corrosion due to 'leakage.'
david strachan Posted November 4, 2017 Share #6 Posted November 4, 2017 Yes leakage was a prob with Zn-Carbons particularly. IIRC had some corrosion with a NiCad once too. Just a side question... I leave my laptop on plug in charger all the time...dont use it much. Will this deteriorate the battery, or does the cut-out circuit stop this problem? ...
