TheCanadian1 Posted October 31, 2017 Share #1 Posted October 31, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone I’m trying to decide between the two and am having a real hard time. I handled both and I think I would be satisfied with either or. I hate to say this but after looking up issues about the Zeiss wobble...it has kind of deterred me a bit. Is this something of the past? From all the sample photos I would be pleased with either lens. I definitely can’t afford the Summicron APO but do you think they would come out with just a ASPH version? I only want to make one purchase and I hope to make the right decision to last me many years of satisfaction. Thanks. Advertisement Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 Hi TheCanadian1, Take a look here Summicron 50 v5 or Zeiss Planar 50. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
TomB_tx Posted October 31, 2017 Share #2 Posted October 31, 2017 I have both, and agree the images of both are great, if different. My Planar has never had a wobble, but the focus feels a bit too light to me - I prefer the feel of the Summicron. Under some lighting conditions the Summicron will show central veiling flare, so the Planar is better in that respect. But overall I prefer the Summicron images. I've been using a 50 2.5 Summarit-M more due to its size and focus tab, but the action is even lighter than the Planar and very fast. A bit harder to nail (and hold) focus. jdlaing Posted October 31, 2017 Share #3 Posted October 31, 2017 The Summicron appears to have a cleaner, smoother image in the same conditions. My opinion.
Ko.Fe. Posted October 31, 2017 Share #4 Posted October 31, 2017 I have four (same optics as five), before I had Planar. To be honest, I'm finding Cron as boring and modern in rendering as Planar was. Just sharp and neutral, with Planar seems to have less issues with difficult light and less focus shifts. You could get Planar twice less, if it will wobble they fix it for price still less than Cron and Planar+service. And Zeiss seems to have real office in Canada, BTW. If you need ASPH, here is 50 1.5 from CV.
