The 21-35mm Vario is a 'ROM' lens - are ROM lenses backwardly compatible with earlier R cameras?  I am contemplating buying one for use with my R5.  My copy of J. Eastland's 'R Compendium' predates the introduction of the contacts on the lens.

Fine for R3 onwards, though of course only the R8/9 will gain benefit from the ROM chip.

Well, here it is, locked & loaded as our transatlantic cousins might say...  :)  Pity it is such a miserably dull day but nevertheless I will get out & about at least making a start on the test roll.  (I briefly tried it out on my M240 and the results are as good as one would expect).

Congratulations, looks in condition.  Looking forward to seeing the results of the test

The 21-35R is a superb lens and I regret selling mine. However, now I have the 35-70/4 R lens (very usable at full aperture) my existing 21mm Super Angulon R lens takes care of most superwide views - the 21/4R is a superb lens when stopped down to f8 and can be bought for a third the price of the 21-35mm R.

I approached it from the other end. I have 35mm, 60mm & 90mm (all Elmarits) and decided that the 21-35mm Vario Elmar would add more choices to my R focal-range (and for my M240). Some results can be seen here from the test roll of HP5+ put through the R5 earlier this week.  Initial impressions are that it is an exceedingly impressive lens    :)

I've been very pleased with this lens, a sample photo shown here taken on the R8.
