Leica SL and Nikon D810 - homogenising on the Leica 'look'

Hi

For a reason I won't bore you with, I have to mix Leica SL files and Nikon D810. I'm trying to make them look like they're acceptably similar (never the same). I have and can use Lightroom, Capture One, Photoshop. But whatever I do I can't get a homogenised look on these pictures - essentially making the Nikon files a bit more like the Leica. Has anyone succeeded at doing this? Willing to share the settings? I don't even mind buying a commercial profile, if I could find one.

I make profiles for all my cameras. Makes matching files easy, although they’ll never be exactly the same.

Shoot them both with the lens cap on. I reckon they'll look pretty close.

If you are on a Mac. Maybe Iridient Developer can help. I can't guarantee if it will work.

 

Many of the adjustments available in Iridient Developer use the CIELab color space or the CIECAM02 color appearance model "behind the scenes" for their processing.

 

In Iridient Developer. Set your images to a lowered colour saturation such that it is close enough that you are happy to manipulate. Output to a Wide gamut color space like ProPhoto RGB. In 16 bit ( will be huge).

 

In Photoshop. Filter the images with a slightly destructive filter ( like noise or median or gaussian blur - you have limited filters in 16 bit ) to normalise the image noise patterns. To your taste. It's the how you like the grain to look sort of thing.

 

Manipulate the RGB colours with cmd-M (curves) to match the image colours and contrast. Export to sRGB or adobe RGB as necessary. Try and match a pair of Nikon and Leica file with colours that will be your reference for all other files.

 

Hope that helps. (You can save it as a Photoshop action to speed things along for other files)
