insanibasha Posted September 27, 2017 Share #1 Posted September 27, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I'm a complete Leica noob and I just bought an M6 online. As I browsed and looked at other images of M6s I saw different engravings. Mine says LEICA CAMERA GMBH GERMANY on the back and nothing on the top plate, does this mean my M6 is a leitz even though the red dot says Leica (The previous owner can swap the red dot right), and if it is does it mean that my M6 is made in Canada or anywhere else beside Germany? I'm sorry if this is a stupid question as I said I am a complete noob. Thanks Welcome, dear visitor! ShivaYash Posted September 28, 2017 Share #2 Posted September 28, 2017 Don’t worry. It’s probably an early production run. Just buy some film and shoot. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
ShivaYash Posted September 28, 2017 Share #3 Posted September 28, 2017 I’d say it’s German made, given that it has Germany engraved on the back. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
pico Posted September 29, 2017 Share #4 Posted September 29, 2017 You want confusion? My M4-P has top engraving 'Leitz', front engraving, 'LEICA', and a red dot, 'Leitz', made by Leitz, Canada on the back.

250swb Posted October 2, 2017 Share #8 Posted October 2, 2017 (edited) You want confusion? My M4-P has top engraving 'Leitz', front engraving, 'LEICA', and a red dot, 'Leitz', made by Leitz, Canada on the back. You want even more confusion? My M4-P has top engraving saying Leitz, front Leica, Leitz red dot, and 'Made in Canada', except it was made at Wetzlar and has M6 style flush windows, a single flash sync socket, and M6 plastic strap protectors. (The answer to this conundrum is that it is in the very last batch of 1000 M4-P built after Leitz Canada closed down, so all the parts were shipped back to Wetzlar for assembly. An M6 without a meter in other words.) Edited October 2, 2017 by 250swb
