Fang Posted September 5, 2017 Share #23 Posted September 5, 2017 Well I had a good time with my SL, but its time to upgrade to the TL2..............Maybe wondering why I said upgrade and the reason is because its an upgrade for me. I originally bought the SL to use with my Noctilux 0.95 as the EVF on the SL helped make nailing focus a whole bunch easier. The second reason was because I wanted something small to have a walk about camera to take with me when using my Soo7. After 9 months (I think I've had it that long) of lugging that brick around I now realize that the SL is not an ideal walk about camera...........FOR ME. I haven't held the TL2 but from what I can see on the web and from listing to what TL2 owners have said, I think this could be the perfect camera for my trip to Japan in November to shoot the atom colors, and of course the pretty Japanese ladies dressed in there colorful costumes.........no need for a tripodas the TL2 is good for 5000 ISO. I still have two weeks to go on the rig before getting home, the camera should be waiting for me when I get home........pictures to follow. Neil Neil is your SL on Sale ? Guess Nuk will have a new camera for her Christmas this year.
tom0511 Posted September 5, 2017 Share #24 Posted September 5, 2017 While I like the TL2 I also hope you dont miss the SL. Dont set your expectations towards the TL2 too high in regards of speed compared to the SL. On the other side for me it is a very refreshing contrast to use the TL2. I am quite quick with the touch interface, fast acces to all important functions this way. Also it is relativly unobstrusive small system where you dont catch too much attention. For my private stuff (which is all I do) it is my most used camera these days. Enjoy.
HeinzX Posted September 5, 2017 Share #25 Posted September 5, 2017 What seems for me to be the essence is, that there would be big interest in a smaller version of the SL with APS-C chip (because otherwise not likly to realize) and possibilty to use SL lenses, TL lenses and R and M lenses with adapter. In my opinion the TL2 is not this camera for several reasions, one is the usability which differs very much to that of the SL and because of the lack of buit-in finder, which has to be attached seperately. The quality of the TL lenses seem to be excellent, and they are not as bulky as the SL lenses - which are superb. And there are lenses available, which are niot even in the road map for the SL (i.e. a macro lens). As I am an older guy I am not sure, I would further stick to my SL with the 2 zooms, if such a small version of the SL would be available. Simply because of weight reasons, nothing else. Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS Posted September 5, 2017 Share #29 Posted September 5, 2017 I forget, did you get the 90-280? would be interested to know how that performs on the TL2 I didn't get it Dan as I don't need another massive system. I have that with the Soo7 and Nikon D5. I want a small compact Leica camera..............hopefully that will meet my needs, if not then we will get something else. Heinz The SL is a nice camera, you can literary use dozens of lens on it, maybe even hundreds, but as you have already pointed out it is big and with the SL lenses on it its humongous. I have Humongous cameras at home. Nikon D5 with 600mm f4 lens. I have the Leica Soo7 with 3 large lenses. I love my Humongous cameras and what they can do. I WANT a SMALL compact camera that I can take with me whenever I leave the house, I like taking pictures of people in places like Starbucks, when I'm walking around town, when traveling to far off exotic places like Japan Cambodia and of course Scotland. As for the TL2 I am hoping that all I will need is my 35mm f1.4 Summerlux and that's it, if that doesn't cut it then I may invest in a zoom but ideally I will just be able to use it with one lens. I had a Leica Q and loved all the functions of it except for the DOF as I am not a 28mm guy........I like 50mm and if I need 28mm then my iPhone can get that. If I want to go and shoot a massive landscape or a model shoot then I can use my S007. If I want to shoot lions and birds I can use my Nikon...................different tools for different jobs. I'll say it again for all those that missed the opening thread. The SL is a nice camera, but for ME its to frigging big for a everyday walk about camera. I have only seen the Leica TL2 on a YouTube video, but from what I can make out it looks like it can fulfill my needs for now. On the other hand the Leica M10 that I have been shying away from as with degradation eyesight I struggle with the rangefinder..............................My mate John reminded me last night that you can use the same IVF that I bought for the TL2 with that camera two, so who knows, that could be something that I may try at a later date when they become more readily available. steppenw0lf Posted September 5, 2017 Share #34 Posted September 5, 2017 congrats! A fine replacement for your medium range stuff. And your beloved Noctilux is now even equal to 75mm.
Jeff S Posted September 5, 2017 Share #35 Posted September 5, 2017 The M10 VF (not the EVF) is improved over the ones you've experienced.... higher magnification, bigger opening and better eye relief. Take one to an optician and try out free diopters, or demo at a Leica store, and you might reach a different conclusion. M10 and a small 35 or 50 (using RF) is fantastic. Don't need a Noctilux , and focusing should be a breeze with proper correction. I use mine with glasses (distance and astigmatism) and slight diopter correction... and the M10 VF accommodates beautifully. Jeff

Neil Sounds like the right decision for you. You're likely to get the M10 as well once you have the IVF because the sensor is better than the one the SL uses. Also, the M lenses perform better with it. Don't worry, the TL2 and the M10 complement each other well. I have the T. Beautiful colors and skin tones but I hardly use it because it’s so slow and a pain to hold and shoot. Personally, I look forward to the SL2 next year. steppenw0lf Posted September 5, 2017 Share #39 Posted September 5, 2017 I hope the new primes will come soon - as written on the site. They will give me exactly the right size camera. The TL2 is not for me - too difficult to hold (too small, too slippery. As Miss Vivian said "Slippery little suckers" ). And finally waiting for the nextgen SL2 - in 2018 or 2019.
