Rag9fx Posted June 27, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted June 27, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everybody, Â My friend has a D2 and came to me yesterday and asked me if i knew what was wrong with his camera ... i didn't get a chance to take a look at it but it sounded like his LCD screen packed in on him... ( its not working) it still turns on but he describes that there are ;'lines' going across it rendering it unusable ... do D2's lcd screens have a tendency to do that? could this be a quick fix with a reboot or does this have to going in for a service? Â thanks for reading and any input would be helpful, Â Rob
Advertisement Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Hi Rag9fx, Take a look here Digilux 2 problem.... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
doubice Posted June 27, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted June 27, 2007 Roberto, Â Your friend's Digilux 2 suffers from the Dreaded Dead Sensor Syndrome. Some Leica Digilux 2 / Panasonic LC1 cameras had faulty sensors installed, which leads to their pre-mature failure. My Digilux 2 is in New Jersey as well.......... Â Fortunately, Leica has an extended warranty program for the issue - just send the camera to your local distributor or directly to Solms (I assume you are in the UK). You can also search this forum for 'sensor failure' and you will find plenty of information. Â Best, Â Jan
chrisbo Posted June 27, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted June 27, 2007 My Digilux II lost it's sensor two months ago. Search the forum threads for "Digilux 2 Sensor" & you will find many discussions about the problem. In short, Leica is replacing the sensors free of charge even for cameras out of warranty. Â There is a significant backlog on the repairs in the U.S. Some are recommending that you bypass Leica U.S.A. and deal directly with Leica in Germany for the repair. Â I received a letter from Leica yesterday noting a possible 3 to 5 month delay, in addition to the two months already lost, and offering to sell me a Digilux III for $1,000.00 in exchange for giving up my Digilux II. The Digilux II is such a unique camera and because it is no longer being produced, I declined the offer. Hope this info helps.

hellboyjr Posted June 27, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted June 27, 2007 I was hoping that I was going to be one of the lucky ones, but my D2 tanked last week on day one of the family vacation to Philadelphia, PA, before I could take my first photo. I thought I was going to cry. Â I had read the old thread, now I have to decide whether to send it off to NJ or spring for the postage to Solms. Overgaard Posted June 27, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted June 27, 2007 Be happy you don't have a Panasonic LC1. They do not replace it for free. Leica does.

Tedr Posted June 29, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted June 29, 2007 Be happy you don't have a Panasonic LC1. They do not replace it for free. Leica does. Â I'm happy to report that in the USA Panasonic is repairing dead sensor LC1 units free of charge. I just picked one up on ebay and am very relieved to find that this is so. There is a bulletin on the panasonic.com website under consumer support options for digital cameras, specifies the affected serial numbers. Â I know I'm not on the Canon forum but I have to say how impressed I am with my Powershot A700 6MP point and shoot. I expected to find the LC1 trounced it but it is lower noise and better WB. The lens performance is remarkably similar once you turn down from standard to low the Panasonic contrast and saturation image quality settings which hype things up noticeably. Â Anyway, good news for Panasonic DMC LC1 owners in the USA. Â Ted

farnz Posted June 29, 2007 Share #10 Â Posted June 29, 2007 Well done (at last), Panasonic! Â Does anyone know if Leica has published a list of serial numbers for D2s with sensors from the dodgy batch please? Â Pete.
