Q versus TL; comparisons?

For those who have used the Leica Q, and now have the TL2, I am wondering about the comparisons.

I know that the Q has a terrific viewfinder (much superior to the TL's optional evf), fast AF, and renders full frame.

But how does the AF and IQ on the TL2 compare to the Q.

Appreciate any comments.

Hi,

Hard to reply to this one, although I did have a T, which I liked, especially the menu, and then sold. For me, a bit like a Sony RX1 or RX2.  Leica attempt at being a computer with a lens, etc...

The Q is a camera to fall in love with. Can you borrow one from your dealer over the weekend--that will tell you the reality. Very seductive, and I have an M10.

Good luck, you cannot go wrong in the end.

Agreed.  I liked my T (as opposed to a TL) although I did find the EVF a bit of a nuisance. No problems with quality of images. A2 easily achievable.

The Q is another story altogether - quite superb. Remember (as if it really matters) that it is full-frame as opposed to APS-C so if you have a fetish for full-frame then the Q is the one to go for.

Thank you for your replies.

I have the Q and am quite happy with it. I also have the SL, which candidly is a big and heavy. I also have a T, whose image quality is quite nice, but has limitations with shutter lag, 16 mp, slow responses.

I was wondering whether to give up the Q and invest those funds in the new TL2 so was looking for some thoughts from those who have used both.

Thanks,

Rob

I have used both but do not own a Q anymore.

The Q has a more analog user interface compared to TL2.

For me however the flexibility in regards of lenses was much more important than a little more or less speed and I also like the simplistic user interface of the T/TL/TL2. One doesnt have to be a smartphobe-person to like it. I like the analog interface of the M but also the "smart" interface of the TL, and the TL still feels like a camera and not like a computer.

I would suggest if you are fine with the 28mm lens of the Q, stay with the Q. For my photography a normal focal length is used at least as often, so the Q was to limiting for my purpose.

I think the L IQ is not far from the FF sensors.

That is what I was hoping to hear.

For me, the 28mm Q is a pleasure to travel with, but I am going to give the TL2 a tr as well. I can always sell either after a try.

Thanks,

Rob
