Guest sirvine Posted June 25, 2007 Share #1 Posted June 25, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) The focal length menu that pops up when you power up with a WATE-coded lens (in this case a CV15mm) is hard to remember. If you press the shutter button before selecting a focal length, it chooses 18mm. I've been getting some ugly crimson shift in the corners and I think it's because I sometimes forget to press set before I shoot. Example here: solsphere I wish it would just remember my last setting...
Advertisement Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 Hi Guest sirvine, Take a look here Burned by WATE Menu. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
gravastar Posted June 25, 2007 Share #2 Posted June 25, 2007 I've just returned from vacation and some WATE pictures have red corners. Same problem, it's difficult to see the menu in bright sunshine or I forgot to change the focal length. I'm very impressed by the WATE performance though. I guess I'll use Pano Tools or Cornerfix to correct them. Bob.
rwfreund Posted June 25, 2007 Share #3 Posted June 25, 2007 That brings to mind a possible firmware feature. That would be the ability, for those firmware selected lenses such as the WATE (and maybe more in the future;) ) to change your mind and alter the lens setting AFTER the picture has been taken. That would be neat. Another even neater option would be a more complicated WATE II, that like the MATE, communicated its focal length to the camera. As it is, it seems a bit awkward and error prone. -bob in need of assisted living, like lens cap detection, more every day
jaapv Posted June 25, 2007 Share #4 Posted June 25, 2007 Or simply: the camera remembers your last setting and applies that unless specifically changed.
punktum Posted June 25, 2007 Share #5 Posted June 25, 2007 Or simply: the camera remembers your last setting and applies that unless specifically changed. My M8 sometimes does it, but I havn´t figured out why and how so far...?!?!?
scott kirkpatrick Posted June 25, 2007 Share #6 Posted June 25, 2007 This request -- if you ignore the lens setting dialog, the last confirmed setting is used, has been stated clearly as a request from us. The response was that they were looking at the whole process of using the WATE and would be making changes. So let's see what the next firmware brings, and say what we need as a delta off that next release. scott

This will add the cyan-vignetting correction to the picture when you are not using IR-cut filters on the lens (which I personally do not do on the CV 15mm). This will then not allow you to select the 16mm lens option, just the 18mm, when it detects the CV 15mm lens. Apparently the 15mm lens (or the WATE), without an IR filter, does not need brightness-vignetting correction other than 18mm.

Guest sirvine Posted June 25, 2007 Share #9 Posted June 25, 2007 Yes, that's perfect Guy. My preference would be to have the menu available, but not pop up every time. I think it adds to the lag between power up and shutter button availability, too, but I can't verify that.
