Riley Posted June 25, 2007 Share #2  Posted June 25, 2007 should be reworked as oh .. oh ..its not a Canon  "Next time, maybe Panasonic should pay more attention to what its customers need, rather than marketing the hell out of something that nobody would want. dugby Posted June 25, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted June 25, 2007 Ahhh .....that damned 3-zone Autofocus "default setting" always catches the novice user.....to mess up their user experience on a D3 / L1.
lemalk Posted June 25, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted June 25, 2007 I don't think there's a valid point in the entire piece - the lens is an extraordinary lens, not an OK one and the camera offers something the Nikons and Canons just can't - the feel of a traditional camera, not a computer soldered onto a lens. Â Let's face it - the L1 and the D3 aren't for everyone. You won't see Panasonic unleash a slew of cameras on a sleepy southern American town and make them "stunning photographers" like Nikon's "Picturetown" campaign. Â The camera's advanced enough to give you complete control and simple enough to work great in Auto mode. Â It's a "sleeper" to be sure, but it doesn't have any sizable shortcomings the way the article implies. Â What lazy journalism.
biglouis Posted June 25, 2007 Share #5  Posted June 25, 2007 The harshest review I've seen yet. Digital Journal - The Digital Journal Lemon Award: Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1K  More like mental masturbation than a review. Reminds me of what Peter O'Toole once said after particularly damning reviews of his comeback to the West End stage, "today's reviews are tomorrow's fish and chip wrappers!".  (Of course, you have to be of a certain age to get the analogy)  LouisB

They've noted all of the flaws that everyone else has, but ignored all of the positive aspects of the camera. It isn't a complete review. I think it does show some sort of knee jerk reaction to the price point though.

jdlaing Posted June 25, 2007 Share #10 Â Posted June 25, 2007 This one is obviously some young reviewer's review about something he does not understand. FastFashnReloaded Posted June 25, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted June 25, 2007 i remember Phil Askey questioning the worth of LiveView, for which he didnt see a purpose. Then when the same feature appeared on the 1DMkIII it became the greatest thing since sliced bread. Â I have wondered about that. "Then when the same feature appeared on the 1DMkIII it became the greatest thing since sliced bread." My knee-jerk reaction to the Canon evangelists is never to buy a Canon. (Have you tried the optical finder in the Canon G7? Yuck.) Â I just bought a two lens kit E-330 for $534 new from Oly's close-out department on Ebay. I would LOVE to have an L1, or a D3, but I just can't justify spending that much more for the same thing (arguments about firmware and build quality notwithstanding and also I wanted the secondary AF sensor for Live Mode A and the mobile LCD). Â Now I have two Four Thirds bodies I'm going to start collecting glass.
ho_co Posted June 25, 2007 Share #12 Â Posted June 25, 2007 It certainly isn't a "review" to be taken seriously, as many here have said. But note that it dates from October of 2006, when other reviewers complained about these things and more. Â Since that time, some of the problems mentioned have been fixed in firmware revisions, and the selling price is nowhere near that quoted. Â Not just "mental masturbation," but out of date "mental masturbation" as well.
