Alklb Posted July 11, 2017 Share #1 Posted July 11, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Asking 600 with lens. It is in mint and looked at by the same camera store I have bought from for 40 plus years. They say it is great. Any thoughts? Thanks! Alan
Advertisement Posted July 11, 2017 Posted July 11, 2017 Hi Alklb, Take a look here Looking at a Digilux 3. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted July 11, 2017 Share #2 Posted July 11, 2017 Don't do it!! Unless the 600 you refer to is pence or beans. The Digilux 3 was a failure for Leica, and 4/3rds is a dead system (not micro 4/3rds of course).
jaapv Posted July 11, 2017 Share #3 Posted July 11, 2017 The sensor is obsolete, still the results can be decent. For 600 Euros there are many better and more attractive cameras, totally overpriced. I had a Digilux2 at the time it came out (still have it and use it occasionally), and was totally horrified at the Digilux 3. It did sell some on the Leica name, but most if not all owners have sold it for what they could get (not much) or use it as attic filler.
srivastava Posted July 15, 2017 Share #4 Posted July 15, 2017 I have this and will never part with it. I personally rate it higher than the X Vario. The bounce flash and OOC B&W Jpegs are to kill for. Lens can be had cheap on eBay . The only negative is the size and the viewfinder can be a bit dark but at least it has a built in optical viewfinder unlike the Xs . It is my go to camera for indoor parties due to the bounce flash and some lovely lens'
jaapv Posted July 15, 2017 Share #5 Posted July 15, 2017 The image quality is far behind the X-Vario. The Digilux-3 sensor is really not as good, the viewfinder dark, low contrast and tunnel-like. The Digilux2 sensor is also not on par with modern sensors either and the EVF first-generation, but it has a rather unique rendering and incredible lens which makes it outdated but not obsolete. Einst_Stein Posted July 16, 2017 Share #6 Posted July 16, 2017 It could be very hard to swallow that the 8.88 x 6.66 format Digilux 2 is more preferred to the 4/3 Digilux 3, not to mention Digilux 3 has interchangible lens. In fact, I would raise my eye brows when if someone claimed a smaller sensor camera is preferred than a larger sensor camera. My mind was changed after I had both Sony R1 (APS-C, 10MP) and Leica Digilux 2. (8.88 x 6.66, 5MP), I have recrntly post the pictures from Fz50, Digilux2, and R1 to the Panaspnic group. Youcan take a look to see what you think. Within the 4/3 format, including M43, you might check out the Leica Dlux 109 to compare with the Digilux 3. Dlux 109 is a Japanese breed Leica, with expected difference from the Germany Breed Leica such as XVario, and the common opinion to be much preferred to Digilux 3. The Lumix version (LX100) should be close in price, especially on used ones.
