Bill W Posted July 1, 2017 Share #1 Posted July 1, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) With the recent release of a firmware update to address various card issues, this was what is recommended for the M10. I was looking for some 64Gig cards and trying to get the recommended 80 Mb/s write speed but so many only address read speed as their main advantage. Just how important is the write speed? Does this only come into play if you are shooting burst of shots which I do not ever do. Of course the higher the write speed, the more expensive the card. "The Leica M10 supports SDHC/SDXC cards from 1GB up to 512 GB. We recommend to use cards with write speed 80 MB/s or higher in order not to restrict the cameras performance. In single cases it can occur that the speed, stated by the cards manufacturers, differs from the effective read or write speed in the Leica M10." Advertisement Posted July 1, 2017 Posted July 1, 2017 Hi Bill W, Take a look here M10 and write speed.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Tailwagger Posted July 1, 2017 Share #2 Posted July 1, 2017 Yep, it does come into play when shooting burst if the buffer fills as it effect the amount of time it takes to clear the buffer for the next shot. Other than that, its probably not an issue at all. As you state the benefits are on the read side. Of course cards do last a very long time in my experience, so it may pay in the long run to buy above the minimum, particularly if you're buying a high capacity card. OTOH, as 16GB cards are approaching the cost of film, I've begun to consider whether I should just be buying them in bulk, using them once and once offloaded, retiring the card as a back up copy. Bill W Posted July 1, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted July 1, 2017 I have a bunch of 16GB cards, all Sandisk that are not fast but I got them fairly cheap a couple of years ago. Not sure if I want to use them like film though and just store images on them.

Some brands e.g. SanDisk offer far better write speeds than others e.g. Lexar. I would choose a SanDisk card that has a U3 spec. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk The majority of my cards are SanDisk. I have never really been that concerned with speed of the card. SanDisk 64 GB with max 95MB/s write speed are about $35 at B&H.
