Do I count? I just acquired a new to me m9 in silver grey sensor replaced and all, shutter 2510. Haven’t gotten a Lens yet lol! But I’m really excited :)

Welcome to the club. Enjoy that bad boy and be sure to post some shots when you get a lens. What are you getting?

I’m looking for 50’s. Perhaps and Cron v6 or a Lux. Admittedly, deciding on lens colors weigh in heavily. :) im just one of those...

I always thought I'd not like the silver ones... until I got the Summaron. I think I'd stay away from the red ones though  :)

Hi, I have been following the threads on here with huge interest whilst acquiring my Leica first intro!  What a resource to have, thank you J

Went through numerous decision processes but ultimately picked up from my local camera store a EXC++ M9 with new sensor and following a few weeks of experimentation

and seeing what it is capable off, am picking up an ‘as new’ with new sensor M9-P later this week. That’s bodies sorted.

Between two branches I then picked up a nearly new 50mm  Summilux ASPH and a last but one version of the 28mm Elmarit and, if I can stick to my discipline, that is it for a year to really get acquainted.

Having had Nikon and more recently off loaded quite a bit of Fuji kit (ex an X-Pro2 and some core lenses) in part-ex, find it such a relief to slow the whole pace down and am blown away by the image potential

…. and the tremendous sense of satisfaction in the whole re-learning process.   Loving the M9!!

Welcome to the forum. The M9 is an excellent and very versatile camera. Mine are racking up images slowly but surely. If you just add a cheap but reasonable 90mm you will have a system which will keep you occupied for as long as you can resist further GAS.

Interesting. I walked to get my M-E with new sensor and spotted young photog with Pro2.

...They made it looks like RF, but no cigar...

BWT, Leica seems to reset shutter count on my M-E after sensor replacement.

At least it started to write frames from number one again.

Shutter count on my m9 was also reset after sensor (new type) replacement.

Strange that they would do that on some cameras and not others. Did they change the shutter at the same time as the sensor? How are you seeing that the shutter count was reset?

I'm equally baffled.

I'm quite certain that they didn't change the shutters, as I see the same familiar tiny light scratch on one of the shutter blades that has been there since day one of my ownership of this camera. I quite often go into the service menu and check my shutter count there, so was a bit surprised when I entered the menu for the first time after the sensor change and found that the shutter count was a single digit number, rather than the five digit number before I sent the camera to Wetzlar.

I'm wondering if the disparity could be a result of different habits of individual technicians, or perhaps slight differences in how rigorously each technician applies the reparation protocol set by Leica, i.e. if there is such a thing.

It could be that I suppose. Not a good thing to do though, for people buying secondhand!

Not good, for sure. And in my case Leica actually didn't state that the sensor was replaced clearly in the service log/receipt included. I had a sniff of it when I saw the FW was 1.204, and sent them an email about it. It was only in the email that they officially confirmed that the sensor was replaced with the new-gen one.

If I was to sell my M9 I would have to both print out that email as proof to the buyer, and explain that the actual shutter count is another five-digit number on top of what s/he sees in the menu.  (Is it time that LUF added a "facepalm" emoji? :p)

I have next to no information from Leica dealer on what was done. No bill of work, just some - camera send for service replacement, camera received after sensor replacement.

I have to look on the sensor (it was this bad before I send it) and my FW is 1.216 (which I remember to install in 2017).

Shutter count in debug data is 5462. So, it is only reset it in the file naming, where it has reset counting command in the regular menu. This is how I was counting before sending it for new sensor. And it was something like low 7xxx...

I'm all yours to help you. I have my M-E since new. I set it to Leica files numbering at day one. And it was growing file number from 32 (some exposures were taken in the store before me)  to 5254 before I gave it to Leica dealer.

One of the first exposures just after I purchased it new in 2016:

File name is L1000039.

Last exposure before it went to Leica.

File name is L1005254.

Then I get it back from dealer with new sensor one week ago and checked today it shows me 5462 in camera hardware debug window and my current file number is L1000069 - exactly how many exposures I took with new sensor.

Now help me. How do I set file name to something like L1005254 in camera and will camera continue to increase file count from 5254 after it?

I’ve also been impressed with the battery life of the m9. Too, my sensor is replaced but I never owned one before. I really love the colors out of it. Really glad I opted for one before going all in with the latest or not so latest. Certainly a joy to use and to experience.

Hey guys, brand new Leica user here !
Purchased a used Leica M9 with 50mm Summicron (V5).
It case with a Leica 36mm viewfinder (no idea why, don't think it has any use on the M9), the SF58 flash and a Leicatime half case and neckstrap.

The M9 still has the old sensor but it's only got 1220 clicks !

I'll have to test the sensor for corrosion though ;-)
