Weatherproof

Hi There

Well, Leica lenses have been used in nasty conditions by photojournalists since time immemorial (well, the 1950's anyway). The tolerances and their lubrication make them pretty well sealed.

When I was testing, I went out for 2 hours in steady, heavy rain, and I held the camera away from my body, so that the rain hit the rear screen and the lens - with no protection.

At the end of the two hours there was a small sign of water on the lens mount (nothing which could do damage) - otherwise it was all fine

I don't suggest you use it like this, but I think you can assume that shooting in rain is perfectly okay

Stefan Daniel has noted that close tolerances and lubrication provide a high degree of weather resistance.

There is no universal standard for what constitutes weather sealing, resistance, etc. DSLRs vary in construction, even within the same company. Lensrentals has disassembled numerous cameras and lenses across various brands to demonstrate this. And even for the best built gear, they don't consider anything absolutely weather proof (under water gear aside). Common sense still helps.

For the water on the lens mount, I presume you saw this after removing the lens? The lens mount is a pretty tight fit so this is surprising but I suppose two hours of soaking is a lot of water!

They look lovely in the rain....!

They do... :) My avatar (of M240 + Konica Hexanon) was drenched in water when I took picture.

My issue with M and M lens is with VF getting fogged up after an hour or so in the rain. I wish Leica sealed it better. It doesn't affect the picture though but start affecting the ability to focus (due to hazy VF image).
