LouK Posted May 26, 2017 Share #1 Posted May 26, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just got the new M10 two days ago and trying to understand the differences between it and the M240. I often used the spot metering on the M240 for street portraits by creating a separate user profile. I set the Light Metering Mode to "Advanced" and the Exposure Metering to "Spot." I saved the resulting set up as a user profile. I was able to go to spot metering without physically turning on the Monitor by selecting the Spot User Profile. The M10 seems to require a different solution to quickly go to Spot as there is no "Advanced" metering mode. On the M10, I set the Exposure Metering to "Spot." When I want Spot metering I turn on Live View. When Live View is off I assume the metering goes back to center weighted. Has anyone found a faster solution?

a.noctilux Posted May 26, 2017 Share #2 Posted May 26, 2017 On M10, Spot metering is only when LV or Visoflex used. Logical thing, the Spot can be set all around the frame (with arrows) and in OVF, no way to know where is actually Spot's set.
M11 for me Posted May 26, 2017 Share #3 Posted May 26, 2017 Once in the menu you set the exposure metering to spot it will stay like that. As a consequence, when you use LV the spot metering is immediately on when the display is on. And it is back to center weighted when you look through the view finder with LV off. By the way: The Spot is always in the center of the screen and a cycle indicates the size of the spot.

Nice device and the Spot place stays there, even when leave LV. May be source of trouble if this Spot is "possible" used with OVF. The Spot returns to center after off/on. M11 for me Posted May 26, 2017 Share #6 Posted May 26, 2017 (edited) Great information. No indeed. I did not try to move that spot. But you are right. The instruction manual is not precise enough about that at all. On the other hand: Do you really believe that when switching back to OVF then the Spot will stay at the position of the EVF?? I think that with OVF we have the central weighted exposure metering in the middle back again. Edited May 26, 2017 by Alex U.
