SL is a non-solution solving no problems

Possible solution: Adapt a foreign 16-35 (or 17-35 or 24-35) or use a Q (which looks really promising), or invest big in a Summilux-M 28.

...or may I suggest the new 28mm Elmarit M #11677 (yes, the 28Lux-M is excellent, but weight/size/cost-wise, and with 39mm filer thread, the Elmarit is superb).

Yes it is a very nice lens. Small and of highest quality. But I already have the predecessor (see my icon) and though it is slightly bigger, I never wanted to spend the money and buy the latest. (the predecessor is already very close in performance and good enough for me).

Lately I bought the Sigma Art 24-35, so that I have an AF lens. And surprise, it is also optically excellent. (but heavy)

But if available I would probably immediately buy a SL 2.0/28mm .

I am using the Leica Q at the moment.

I usually travel with both using the Q for unintrusive shooting, the quite useful macro mode and as backup in general.

With regards to this thread, whereas I don't think very highly of DL I have to admit that the fanboy attitude of some people in this thread and the attitude towards Sony in general has irritated me just as much...

I do understand that not everybody is waiting for new SL lenses but some people are and IMO the pace at which Leica brings these lenses to the market is a problem and the fact that they currently cannot even deliver deliver the 50mm SL is also a problem...

It is. But it's been the norm for Leica for some years now (since the release of the M9??) It would certainly be nice if Leica could improve their delivery times. However it looks as if this is the way Leica wants to do things so as not to have a huge rush of production and then just as quickly, over production.

I have come to understand that this is probably the way things will be with any new Leica product. If I understand and accept it then it's less likely to irritate me. I waited 2 months for my M10. No one died. I am currently waiting for one of my SL's to be repaired and that's a camera I use for my work. But understanding how Leica does things, I have contingencies in place and life (and work) goes on.

That doesn't mean I'd like it to be better. It just means I understand how it is.

Leica's slow releases and service times will ultimately limit their ability to be accepted as a system for working photographers. But no more than the cost of entry. Leica isn't doing anything new here. They've been slow for years. It's a something people should consider when buying into the brand for sure. I don't think they're going to get better so we need to live with it if we're going to be part of the Leica user group.
