Wetzlar or New Jersey

Sorry if this has been addressed, can't seem to find an answer here (so far).

I'd like to send my M9 in for general cleaning/checkup, if and when the M10 on order ever arrives. Have never sent a Leica to Wetzlar and have been satisfied with warranty repairs here in USA. Is there any compelling reason for shipping  to Germany instead of keeping it a bit closer to home? Any idea how much such a checkup might cost?

Thanks,

Louie

Shipping to Wetzlar means dealing with US customs.

Not an issue for a camera sent for repair. When the camera is sent back, Leica Customer Service will provide the correct documentation to the courier company, and the the camera will be delivered to you without you having to do anything. Also, as the US has no value added tax, the are also no problems with buying used cameras abroad: they're not taxed and there is no issue with sales taxes, which are applied by each state, not federally. I should say that my experience has been much better with Wetzlar customer service than with NJ.
