Anyone shooting video 4K/Ultra HD and using the APS-c sensor format?

I was wondering;

since the SL, when shooting 4K video, takes it's signal from the "Super 35" area of the video chip .......... which is slightly smaller than APS-c..... would it make sense to set the SL to the sensor format of APS-c ?

Would 4K recording be affected in any way?

 

I thought it would be convenient for pre visualizing, and shooting.

 

I had another question;

if I set the SL sensor format to APS-c can I mount and shoot lenses made for that format ?   .....I am thinking of the Sigma10-20 3.5 .

Leica has done a nice job of keeping the still and video operations in the SL separated.using the LV button to switch between modes, so I wouldn't expect any side effects of operating in APS-C format.  In fact, using TL lenses for video shooting on the SL seems to be common.  They are fine lenses, and the slow shutter speeds favored for video mean that the slower apertures are not a drawback.  With a TL lens, the SL should automatically switch to APS-C format (and the AF will work), but that setting is also available on the Image page as "sensor format" for use with an unrecognized lens.  As is pointed out on another thread, if you want to see the video format with a still shot, you must also change to 16:9 framing on the menu line just above.

I wonder how many SL users are using T lenses for video?

I do...the T lens hits the sweet spot on SL (super 35). I use the 35mm f1.4 and 11-23mm

David Farkas (the Leica Miami store owner) shoots his videos mostly with this lens.  I think Irakly Shanidze has been doing his ballet videos with one.  I just ordered one on EBay (they are selling well below list).

Good to hear!  I contacted Ken Hansen about one just this morning.

Alex's combo makes great sense!  The 11-23 with the 35 would make IMHO, a great lite walk-about/travel set.

 

Scott's pictures remind me of visiting friends who have a home in Shiloh.
