Hi there,

I bought my SL, waiting for it to arrive and I'm here wondering - when I had the Sony A7RII, there was a lovely hidden secret : the Rokinon/Samyang 14mm 2.8. Very sharp, can be had for peanuts.

This lens comes in Canon EOS, Nikon and even Sony E mount, so it can be adapted to the SL via one of these mounts.

Did someone try it already on the SL ? works ok ? In the end I sold the 14mm and now thinking about buying it again - any caveats ?

That is correct. I used the first version.

Bear in mind, Rokinon, Bower, Samyang = same lens, different brands. Why ? beyond me. They are EXACTLY the same lens.

There are three versions : the first, the second which has AE confirmation chip and now they are rolling out the same lens with Autofocus. I used the first one, in the Sony A7RII and the results were perfect.

I never had a Voigtlander 15mm III , mine was the LTM ( I version ) and the Samyang 14mm would mince it in terms of image quality. Granted, the III version is supposedly much better and spot on Leica cameras - but value for money, if ultra wide angle is not something you use alll the time, its hard not to look at these lenses.

Build quality is OK.

the Samyang/Rokinon 85mm 1.4 is stellar as well : google it, there are comparisons vs 80mm Leica 1.4 Summilux ( yes, the holy grail ) and Contas 85 1.4 ( another "monster" ) and the Rokinon beats them in terms of micro contrast , sharpness and bokeh.

Samyang (I think this is the builder ?! of all these lenses) has begun shipping AF lenses (only 2 at the moment).

As soon as the 135 will be available in AF mount it is much more interesting for me - so I wait a little longer. I am used to that and have long years of practice.   :)

I hope it will work with the Novoflex adapter. Or maybe somebody else will also offer an AF adapter - I still hope for Metabones or Kipon or you-name-it.

A caveat regarding these lenses: Expect variations between copies; so one may want to get hand on several lenses in order to check that the optics is of (de-centered glass can a problem for the wider lenses). Taking into account the cost (and generally low weight) of these lenses, fine copies are - obviously - attractive.
