fotografr Posted April 27, 2017 Share #1 Posted April 27, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) The male Red Winged Blackbird is quite spectacular with its jet black body and brilliant red patches at the shoulder. The female, shown here, is bland by comparison. Just the opposite of us humans. V114 Welcome, dear visitor! Herr Barnack Posted April 27, 2017 Share #2 Posted April 27, 2017 It's the same with all species of birds, as far as I know. We saw a pair of Cardinals the other day - a male and a female. The male was a brilliant red, almost neon and the female was a drab olive-tan with dull smudges of red showing in places. I told my wife if they were human, the male would be in a tuxedo and the female in her bath robe and house slippers.
platypus Posted April 27, 2017 Share #3 Posted April 27, 2017 She may appear a little bland to some though in truth she is lovely, with her intricate patterning in brown and black, she looks expensive, elegant and beautifully groomed. Black is also acknowledged to have a very slimming effect.

fotografr Posted April 28, 2017 Author Share #7 Posted April 28, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Her shiny beak is her best asset. I don't think the male who's been chasing her around would agree with that.

fotografr Posted May 1, 2017 Author Share #9 Posted May 1, 2017 Somewhere a male red winged blackbird thought she was beautiful. Here's one of her daughters already out of the nest and flying on her own. Welcome, dear visitor!
