Sandokan Posted April 26, 2017 Share #1 Posted April 26, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Before I claim on my home insurance, I thought I would check what the Leica Passport covers? Camera was bought on 31 March 2016 in UK, with the old Passport Cover and registered. On 11 April, I dropped camera onto concrete. There is cosmetic damage to the top plate where the thumb rest is. Camera still seems to work fine. So it is one year plus few days into cover. IS accidental droppage covered by Leica? Thanks in advance

Jeff S Posted April 26, 2017 Share #2 Posted April 26, 2017 You were fortunate to get Passport coverage as it was discontinued for U.K. residents on the day after you bought your camera (and not available elsewhere long before that). It would have covered accidental damage (within 1 year...26 days ago), which the standard Leica warranty would not. But I would call anyway to see if there is any leeway. Leica also sometimes is generous with their service costs. Worth a try, as you'll need a repair estimate for insurance anyway. In the US, I carry separate insurance on camera gear that covers all circumstances not covered by the warranty ( including theft and loss), without deductible. But prior discussions have shown that this coverage is not available in many other locations, at least not at a reasonable cost. Good luck. masjah Posted April 26, 2017 Share #3 Posted April 26, 2017 From what I remember of UK Passport cover on new stuff that I bought, it covered accidental damage, but excluded cosmetic damage. I guess that means that if you dinted the cover, they would fix it, but if you just scratched the finish, they wouldn't?
Sandokan Posted April 26, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted April 26, 2017 Thanks. It is more than cosmetic. However as it is now 26 days out of warranty, I will go to my insurance company. They should cover all eventualities. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
