reddot925 Posted April 18, 2017 Share #1  Posted April 18, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) With the recommendation from you guys I ordered the Rigid Summicron, it just arrived today so wanted to share some thoughts.  I'd need to use it in real world to see the image quality but long story short, highly recommended !  Main good points  - Build Quality and the look is simply amazing - Compact but still good handling - Aperture click is not loose like some of Leica's lens today - Image quality is very modern when you think it's over 50 years old  Main bad points - Focus is either a little too firm or focus throw is longer than modern lens (but still smooth) - Need to buy the hood, it does flare quite a bit without hood - image quality not as classic as expected especially for color, just less contrasty (very minor point!)

luigi bertolotti Posted April 18, 2017 Share #3 Â Posted April 18, 2017 With the recommendation from you guys I ordered the Rigid Summicron, it just arrived today ... Â - image quality not as classic as expected especially for color, just less contrasty (very minor point!) True... but is Worth to elaborate a little about ("expecially for color") : Â Summicron "old" was designed at a time in which black&white was still the "king" of professional photography : compared to modern films (not to speak of digital...) the colors of negative films of the era were a lot "rough" : probably, the intent of Leitz designers wasn't aimed to a contrast level that , in color photography, was not significant factor to count on. reddot925 Posted April 19, 2017 Author Share #4 Â Posted April 19, 2017 Yes Luigi, I understand, just merely saying to others who might think if you buy this lens and will get the older or classic look in color similar to say the Noctilux F1 which would not be the case. Â The Rigid images in color are very sharp, modern, and perhaps only 10-20% less contrasty than the latest summicrons probably due to the reasons you state. Â Â Â Â Â Don't get me wrong, I'm still very happy with it!
tamas Posted April 20, 2017 Share #5  Posted April 20, 2017 Reddo  I am very happy that you are very happy with it. I'm sure that your'e happiness and fondness of it will increase as you use it; as my happiness and fondness of mine has over the years.  Of course you do realise that had you been disappointed with it, I and possibly others, will deny any responsibility for what was solely your decision.  I for one never actually recommended it to you, I simply stated that I would buy it, if it were me.   I'm sure it will live up to expectations. Enjoy it and I look forward to seeing more pics from you from it.   Tamas
