Guest flatfour Posted June 20, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted June 20, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) This is the Chamber at the Parliament. It is the most ugly monstrous building except perhaps the main lobby. It was budgeted at 20million pounds sterling and actually cost 440million. A criminal waste by politicians, but what else can you expect from a Labour Government. Think of all the poor people who could have been helped with 420 million pounds. The mind boggles at the politicians incompetence and arrogance.
Advertisement Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 Hi Guest flatfour, Take a look here Scottish Parliament Edinburgh. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted June 20, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted June 20, 2007 The man responsible is dead, so there's no one to take responsibility, any more. I hear that the same team of Quantity surveyors (and Government) are in charge of the 2012 Olympics... Â I actually like the outside, but have never been through the door. The Welsh Talking Shop is also worth a visit, apparently. Â Interesting structure in here - well shown in your photograph. You can't even see where they replaced the collapsed beam
Guest flatfour Posted June 20, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted June 20, 2007 I don't know when the concrete main structure was built but there are numerous cracks appearing, due to ferrous re-enforcement rusting, according to another visior who was builder. The ouside is also an eyesore in my view. Ther are some fabulous modern buldings but this sure ain't one of them.
elansprint72 Posted June 20, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted June 20, 2007 No point blaming the politicians (of whatever predilection), all these decisions are taken by Civil Servants. Â There very fact that a small, inconsequential area like Scotland can have a semi-independent parliament when a mighty kingdom like Westmorland goes unrepresented shows just what a mad world we are living in. stuny Posted June 20, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted June 20, 2007 Talking about the picture, Very nice angle, composition, light and colors. Â Regarding the politics: Every government has corruption. The real issue is the scale of the corruption.
andybarton Posted June 21, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted June 21, 2007 It wasn't corruption, Stuart, it was just over-ambition and the person in charge having no concept of reality when it came to specification and cost.
Artichoke Posted June 22, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted June 22, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) that is a remarkable construction underestimate, almost hard to believe as a percentage it may out do the "Big Dig" boondoogle in Boston your photograph is flattering actually, with an excellent angle chosen ...it does look like you pushed the shadow recovery a tad more than the file could handle, but I could be wrong I worked for the National Health Service in the mid '80s and admired the fact that they prioritized people over buildings, unlike the US where monies for costly buildings could be found at the same time workers & patients were being squeezed now it appears this unfortunate contagion has spread to the British Isles I feel your pain

The room is a very odd share for a parliament that flows from the Westminster tradition. I wonder if the dymanics of sessions is different from the give and take of the Commons in Westminster (and Ottawa for that matter).
Guest Olof Posted June 25, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted June 25, 2007 You see there are not only Sir Norman Fosters in GB. The british embassy in Berlin i also one of these examples, which show us how the gouvernment can spend tax money. But Milton Freedman has alreday explained how it works...
