Beautiful sharp image.  Particularly like the tiny red spots on the wing. Who knew MSU had a butterfly house.

Thank you. Yes, there has been one for a number of years. It is inside the plant sciences building next to the childrens' gardens.

Stunning - and the blue in the background really adds to the picture. 

 

Butterflies are the only inverts that I am frightened of (I know, I can't even begin to explain) so I always greatly admire those who can get good photographs of them.

Thank you for the nice comments.  Fotografr she is beautiful, educated and pregnant!  It's impossible to see in my picture, but when I took that shot she was in the process of depositing an egg on the leaf of that plant.  Jennifer, they are very gentle.  At this butterfly house, there are sponges scattered around that are saturated with honey or some kind of nectar.  Children dip their fingers in the sponges and the butterflys land on their hands to lick the nectar.  I have several pictures of 3-5 year old children mesmerized at the insects on their fingers.
