Leicauser7 Posted March 9, 2017 Share #1 Posted March 9, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have both 1.35x and 1.4X viewfinder magnifiers from my M9 days. I now have an M10 and just out of curiosity went to try them and found that they don't work on the M10 bc the female thread size on the camera is much larger. Is there an adapter or has Leica come out with a new magnifier that will work on the M10? I'm not sure I need one since i found the ovf to be better than the M9, but would be interested to see the difference that a magnifier might make particularly for longer lenses. thx

01af Posted March 9, 2017 Share #2 Posted March 9, 2017 Is there an adapter ...? Yes, there is.
wrosenkr Posted March 9, 2017 Share #3 Posted March 9, 2017 The product you need is called the Leica rangefinder thread adapter. The product number is 24 001. I tried it with my magnifiers in the Leica Store in Washington, and I bought two of them while waiting on their list for an M10.
Leicauser7 Posted March 9, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted March 9, 2017 Cool thanks
Leicauser7 Posted March 9, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted March 9, 2017 ... and does the magnifier work well with the adapter? Since it's narrowing the opening I was wondering if it has a negative impact on the fov or any other way?
Cliff S Posted March 9, 2017 Share #6 Posted March 9, 2017 I find it reduces the contrast just enough to negate the advantages of the increased magnification
Leicauser7 Posted March 9, 2017 Author Share #7 Posted March 9, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) It figures! And of course, Leica has to put it in a nice leather pouch and such so something that literally costs less than $1 to make is $95 to buy! Although in the UK its 42 pounds (including VAT). Too bad I just had a couple of lenses sent to me that I purchased in the UK. I could have had that thrown in for half the price it costs over here... Many thanks for the feedback! Cliff S Posted March 9, 2017 Share #8 Posted March 9, 2017 To be clear, not the reducer but the actual magnifier seems to reduce contrast.

Jeff S Posted March 9, 2017 Share #12 Posted March 9, 2017 Pros/cons and other issues covered in the FAQ... http://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/216580-leica-m8-m82-m9-m9p-mm-mtyp240-faqs-questions-with-answers/?p=2464049 Bottom line, make sure your eyes are corrected first to see the focus patch and subject, then decide if magnifier tradeoffs (including possible contrast reduction) are worth it. A magnifier will magnify problems. But if you liked it on your earlier M versions, no reason why it shouldn't work the same on the M10 (still focusing at 2m), adapter aside.....assuming your eyes haven't changed.
