My wife and I were privileged to take a 3-day safari in the Masai Mara Park in Kenya recently. Game drives were the centre of our days, and the spectacle of the magnificent animals was more than I can express.

I am just organizing my pictures, so over time I will share a few that resonate for me.

This picture was made when our guide drove us into the middle of a herd (about 20) of elephants. We were roughly arms length from these mighty animals as they gracefully moved past our vehicle – strangely, all the animals we saw had no problems with our Toyota Land Cruiser, which they evidently knew was not a threat. We didn't get out.

Thank you both. I never imagined that "Michael" and "Safari" would show up in the same sentence - but luck and serendipity combined to provide us with a fabulous time that included highlights around Nairobi, the Masai Mara and Diani beach on the Indian Ocean (plus a day in Zurich en transit).

Beautiful sight. I just hope people in the East lose their lust for ivory before these great creatures, along with white rhinos, become extinct.

I hope to too. China has, I believe, taken a positive step by outlawing trade in ivory. As usual - follow the money.
