When putting my things in order (at 83, you know...), I went through the remains of the enormous Aviation library I started assembling more than sixty years ago. Among some precious relics, I re-discovered a small book published in Rotterdam in June, 1911. Written in Dutch, 156 pages on high quality paper, 184 photos, three-view drawings and sketches under the title "De Voornaamste Vliegmachines en haar Motoren", what means "Famous Flying Machines and their engines". All that dating more than one hundred years! After spending some pleasant hours turning out the leaves, I did not resist the pleasure to aim my Leica to some of the drawings. Look at the ones selected here, and do remember that they describe things that were flying more than a century ago, in the former millennium. ...And excuse the distortions : I took the pictures "hand-held camera".

First illustration is a three-view drawing of the Paulhan flying Machine.

Next is a detailed perspective of the Voisin "canard" (with "tail" in front and wings behind) flying machine.

Third is a side view of the Farman monoplane.

And last shows the details of the landing gear of the Bleriot that was first to cross the Channel.
