M10? - Sorry, no!

I'm trying to remember a time when you weren't so abrasive...

I don't think I am being abrasive.

I might not identify with your world of absolutes and hyperbole, but I invariably find your posts entertaining. Long may you yearn for more resolution, faster lenses, greater tech advances and all the other things that are 'fundamental' to your creative vision...

Hope so. But the functionality was removed on the M10 and there is nothing to suggest it will be put back. Leica are speaking and acting like it won't be.

Where are they speaking this way? I haven't seen it? It is quite normal for a grip to be released at least a year after a camera. As you know the port is there in the bottom of the M10 if they want to make a grip. I for one will be surprised if they don't offer one at some point.

You could assume less.

I don't identify with your constant need to posture. Are you threatened with my presence, alone? or are you just this way with everyone?

The M was the only camera to need a grip for USB. It came with the base model and the connector wasn't covered up.

If you ask Leica about it, they will tell you they have the SL for that now.

Who wouldn't feel threatened by a fantasy league super-photographer who keeps fifty assistants gainfully employed?

Your memory of that conversation is rusty. Or perhaps it's something more pathological?

Really, do continue, I'm quite used to haters and I find it rather entertaining myself.

Well, the M being what it is, it is not surprising to me that it would need a grip for USB. USB although useful does not seem to be a feature for which many M users are clamouring. In fact, you are the only one that I have seen that seems to care deeply about this feature, although I am sure there are others. Right now Leica is have a very hard time keeping up with the demand for the camera, so until that issue is solved I don't expect them to address peripherals. I also wouldn't expect them to talk about the port for the grip until they have a grip. The very fact that the port is there on the M10 and it is in the same spot and looks just like the port for the grip on the M240 to me pretty strongly suggests that a grip is coming. I for one will be very surprised if one is not available by the end of the year.

It's about much more than just camera preference for some, it seems.

It's a sign of the times - and a changing Leica user base - that a preference for a simple but refined camera is seen as posturing.

It's important that Leica doesn't just hear the loud voices shouting for more megapixels, more tech bloat and ever faster lenses, but also understands that many photographers would like to see the core strengths of the M series retained - the size/profile/viewfinder of the M3 to 6 and very compact lenses in the 28 to 50 range.

You posture what ever the conversation. I don't remember a time you didn't. It's sort of like a chihuahua; mindlessly yappy but harmless and momentarily entertaining. Really, I'm flattered.

I'm not following you down this path, but feel free to continue.

Yeah, but if you are an M shooter and already have M lenses then using the on the T is only the cost of the adapter. A full set of lenses for the panny will definitely cost quite a bit more. I am not disputing that for wildlife the Panny would make sense (so I agree about the 100-400), but for an M10 shooter who wants to add video I think the TL2 is a very strong option and it is cost effective compared to other options as well.

Precisely. Therefore my M240 and Panasonic share a bag (except when traveling; the Leica stays home)

Shooting tethered is not uncommon and those that I know who use the M in a commercial context all do at some point. That is not to say it's on every shoot though. It's just like having a polaroid back but better.

While others will disagree, the M 240 was a very versatile and expansive system and having the M262 and M-D along side made sense for those who wanted to keep things minimal - I certainly do want that sometimes which is why I think an optional grip would be perfect. The M9 and M8 both had in built USB ports. Actually, it's one of the reasons I love the M9 and I was disappointed that the USB grip for the M240 was an extra £1000 at the time but I would be happy with it now. The M9 is a very simple camera that appealed to everyone, it's lacking little and doesn't have the added bloat of the the 240 that some complained about. Personally I think the M240 is compact enough and it's a shame to see so much functionality lost for a few mm, that to me makes no difference at all.

The decision to cover up the grip connector may have been a marketing one made after the design process. It sure seems odd to have a feature and cover it up in a way that is not removable by a latch or button. But who know's. Maybe the M10 is a new base level concept of simplicity and we will see other iterations arise which cater to different users. I'm not feeling so confident about that though. Leica can't know what people need and want if they don't speak up and the forum is a great place for that. Some people just don't like others opinions and needs very much though!
