It is indeed a bit cramped in there:

Had. Past tense.

Meanwhile, film makers use them in droves.

Yes. This is why I am hoping Leica may solve heat issue. But then we don't have folks lined up asking for video in M, therefore, maybe not.

But it is correct that compactness of the body does create engineering design challenges.

Great rangefinder in that iPhone, too.

More cramped in here yet video is working fine.

Well, you might as well show the inside....

By the way, there have been reports of the X1D getting hot, some claiming the body acts as a heat sink. There's a heat warning in the user manual.

It shows it's more cramped.

Overheating cameras is pretty common, and every time I read about it, it eventually gets solved with firmware.

Look - the point is, Leica can say a whole bunch of rubbish, what ever they want, but fact remains the M10 does not have usb or video and the SL does.

I'm not buying either and I hope Leica oust the monkeys that have over run Wetlzar and/or regain control of their senses and put it back.

Sorry, but the comparison is specious.  Apples to Avocados.  You seem to utterly discount the fact that there's an OVF with mechanical RF linkages. At least a quarter of the body is devoted to that. And the cameras you cite have grips. Or do you think they are hollow? Slice the protrusions off the sides and slap on the ends and clearly there is a lot more volume for the camera electronics.  Look at the front view. The area available in those bodies for electronics substantially taller, once you realize that the top of the Leica is devoted to RF.  That doesn't excuse Leica if the cameras have problems, mine showed the message once, and I havent seen it since. Personally I think its some how related to new batteries.  But the true measure is not the size of the camera but the overall volume available for electronics.

Fair to compare these to an SL or Q, but get back to us when the 'blad or sony has a RF.

Err... The cramped bit is not what Leica said. They said it was left off because we did not like it.

By the way, in that case, I want to say a heartfelt thank-you to the anti-video lobby on this forum who managed to deny serious users a feature that did not get in their way in any sense in the first place.

Comparing dimensions like this is useless. You need to compare displaced volume. Here is how you do it:

- Take a big kitchen utensil and fill up with water to the brim. Drop M10 (and repeat with X1D) into the water and collect the spilled water.

- Compare the volume of the spilled water.

Let us know which is more. :)

OH.. and to compare apples with apples, take out RF unit from M10 first so that we compare only the mirroless components.

Rubbish flubbish. A mere factual observation. I am the one who was most vocal about the loss of video in the M10, remember?

Come now, you know I love you Jaap. I did smiley and everything. I know that, but it seems you are suffering from Stockholm Syndrome. They should actually rename that Leicaitis.

It is rubbish. Everyone can put video in a small camera except for Leica. Everyone can have usb in their camera except Leica. Even leica puts video in and USB in their dinky and dumpy, hand polished by a virgins nan TL. It's a joke and it's about as funny as prizing your own teeth out with a butter knife (actually you would probably still be good at that but it still wouldn't be funny), or a fart in a lift at best.

If it weren't for the fact these things were in the camera and being relied on by people it wouldn't be an issue. No warning, gone. USB has been there since the M8. All this silly money spent on lenses and bodies and I can't even use the camera in the way I need to now. "Just buy an SL" they say! They will continue pulling these ridiculous stunts so long as people keep throwing their money at them.

I was thinking more like

- take kitchen utensil and fill with water, drop Leica in

- take wallet to camera store

- give money to shop

- take home Fuji GFX
