Leicauser7 Posted February 10, 2017 Share #1 Posted February 10, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anyone had a chance to compare the two available (well, not really) options, Leica and 3rd Party? I'm wondering which one folks prefer. The Leica one looks a little cleaner to me though the other looks more ergonomic. Also, does anyone have any idea where (or when) either may be available in silver? Thanks.
Advertisement Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Hi Leicauser7, Take a look here M10 Thumbies. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Fireboy Posted February 17, 2017 Share #2 Posted February 17, 2017 leica is more expensive, but it fits fine.
Leicauser7 Posted February 17, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted February 17, 2017 I've heard someplace (I don't recall where) that the Leica one sort of slides in and out and isn't really fixed in place like the 3rd party one. Is that right? Thx
EricC Posted February 17, 2017 Share #4 Posted February 17, 2017 Yes, it is similar to the "ThumbsUp", but of course it is Leica's own.
Leicauser7 Posted February 17, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted February 17, 2017 But my question is, is there a set screw or something to secure it in place or does it sort of go in and out... I read somewhere the latter which didn't sound so good... thx
Cliff S Posted February 17, 2017 Share #6 Posted February 17, 2017 The Leica thumb is just like the old thumbs up for the M240. Slips in and stays. The Leica SL thumbs up had the screw. I don't like the screw because you need a key to take it so if you want the visoflex or flash on the M10, it's a PITA to remove.

satureyes Posted February 18, 2017 Share #8 Posted February 18, 2017 Does the M240 Thumbie fit? Apparently it does. I asked this in another post and someone put a couple of photos up.
Leicauser7 Posted February 18, 2017 Author Share #9 Posted February 18, 2017 ok, so sounds like the Leica actually performs fine then... I think I'll just get whichever one I can get first... for the time being, neither is available in silver in the US. Thanks again...
roverover Posted February 18, 2017 Share #10 Posted February 18, 2017 My experience with the earlier Thumbs Up units with No set-screw is that they DO stay in place, not a problem at all and Tim makes really great things and I like the 2 that I have. What I like about the new Leica M-10 unit is that it sits flush with the top of the camera, (like Tim's older units) and I feel it looks a bit more "integrated" to my eye. This is purely an aesthetic preference, it wouldn't stop me from buying the Match Technical version, but i did order the Leica unit to try it. Welcome, dear visitor! Leicauser7 Posted February 18, 2017 Author Share #11 Posted February 18, 2017 I agree the Leica unit looks better --also the two black set screws (if that's what I'm seeing) look awful on the silver version. Has the silver version been available anywhere yet, i.e., Europe?

Has the silver version been available anywhere yet, i.e., Europe? I have heard the Match version is coming out in 3 - 4 weeks. The set screw is on Top only, what you are seeing on the back is where a black rubber pad attaches, there is a hole on the back where the rubber slightly protrudes from the inner side. Cliff S Posted February 18, 2017 Share #13 Posted February 18, 2017 As nice as the older model thumbs up we're, that's how unaesthetic the new one is. Functional but ugly. The Leica version looks like it's part of the camera and not an add-on.
BBHewee Posted February 18, 2017 Share #14 Posted February 18, 2017 Is that definitely what the Match version will look like? Bummer if that's the case as I love my current one for the 240 which sits flush.

Dirk Mandeville Posted February 18, 2017 Share #16 Posted February 18, 2017 I like the ergonomics of the Match design, but quite simply it looks hideous. The Leica version is so much more minimalist and just blends in like a natural part of the camera. I'll probably end up with the Leica version. I just can't see spending that much on a beautifully designed camera and then ruining the esthetic with an add-on.
Surelythisnameisfree Posted February 18, 2017 Share #17 Posted February 18, 2017 Does anyone know if silver thumbies are available? I pm'ed the guy who makes them but haven't had a response. He only seems to offer the black version on eBay.
Leicauser7 Posted February 18, 2017 Author Share #18 Posted February 18, 2017 My thoughts exactly! I know some number of black ones have been released into the wild -- is anyone aware of any silver ones being released? (Again, in reference to the Leica thimble only).... Surelythisnameisfree Posted February 18, 2017 Share #19 Posted February 18, 2017 ^ sorry, I was talking about the "thumbie" which is a version that doesn't use the hotshoe and is made by a forum member
Leicauser7 Posted February 18, 2017 Author Share #20 Posted February 18, 2017 I actually comminicatee with him a week or so ago and at that time he said the silver versions were starting production and would ship in 2 weeks...
