Advertisement Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Hi Guest, Take a look here Lightroom with M10. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Desmoprem Posted March 4, 2017 Share #62 Posted March 4, 2017 I've had my go-around with Adobe several years ago when I wanted to switch from PC to Mac. They asked for my CS4 license key, then waited about 2-3 weeks and contacted me to ask for my CS3 key, then a month later, previous to that, and on and on with back and forth emails until after about 5-6 months, they agreed that I had provided all info and I had "won", sending me a new disc. I still wonder why they didn't just request all info at the beginning, verified my license history, which I easily did on their member portal, and issued a new license in a matter of days. I'm with the group of users that prefer a stand-alone, perpetual license, as sometimes I am not in an area that has internet connectivity. Same thing with my Autodesk licenses at work (AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks), but I am warming up to the subscriptions for this software. Sidebar: With both Adobe and Autodesk products, I am with the school that does not desire 400 new improvements with each release. I actually "use" the software and don't have time to learn new features (except by accident). I want to see a cleaned up, 400 less features, upgrade. I will say that I was impressed when I bought a used M9, Leica worked with me to get the previous user's license key deactivated, and allow me to upgrade my Lightroom 5 to Lightroom 6. This took about 2 days from asking the question to realizing my images on 6. Leica, in my book, does their job. Adobe, not as well.
Ted Lemon Posted March 6, 2017 Share #63 Posted March 6, 2017 Sorry if I have missed this in the thread but I have a free LR license from when I bought my M246 a year or two ago. I just tried to redeem it on a new Mac Book Pro running Sierra and all went well but the Adobe Creative Cloud Installer will not run giving an Error Message 1. Is this because the old LR licenses have been discontinued and will not allow downloads? If so seems a tad strange as I still have unused ones on my Leica members portal? jaapv Posted March 6, 2017 Share #64 Posted March 6, 2017 I think the license might be for LR6, not LR CC.
Ted Lemon Posted March 6, 2017 Share #65 Posted March 6, 2017 I think the license might be for LR6, not LR CC. Ah. That's what's it downloaded when I redeemed it from adobe site. I have asked Leica the question, but I wonder if this a way for adobe not to allow the free download anymore as downloaded installer script acts as activation code. You can't just use a random installer I think ?
jaapv Posted March 6, 2017 Share #66 Posted March 6, 2017 LR 6 seems to hidden on the site somewhere.
willeica Posted March 6, 2017 Share #67 Posted March 6, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) My experience is that what Leica give you will be a price reduction for a defined period with the Adobe CC subscription service. The consumer has very little say in this and the market dominance of Adobe is increasing all of the time. That is the way of the world, unfortunately. I doubt very much that there is enough 'market space' to attract a serious competitor to Adobe into the market. Leica has no way of influencing that situation. What they are giving you is an 'extra' with their cameras and that is as far as it goes. William
Ted Lemon Posted March 6, 2017 Share #68 Posted March 6, 2017 It's either a fault with adobe not providing the right installer or Leica redemption link not taking me to the right place to get LR standalone version. Which can be an error or a change in policy for redeeming old free standalone licences that has not been communicated well in the process?
digitalfx Posted March 6, 2017 Share #69 Posted March 6, 2017 It's either a fault with adobe not providing the right installer or Leica redemption link not taking me to the right place to get LR standalone version. Which can be an error or a change in policy for redeeming old free standalone licences that has not been communicated well in the process? Well actually the fault is with you for not getting the license code two years ago. You should still be able to get it.,..you may have to email Leica...what you need is for Leica to provide the license number associated with the TAN on the card that came with your camera. Once you have the full license number, then just search the Adobe site for the full installer of LR 6.0. (not CC)..when installing LR, simply add the license number you received from Leica...assuming they can still issue one today. Then don't forget to update to v 6.
Shlomo Posted March 7, 2017 Share #70 Posted March 7, 2017 It's harder to find on the Adobe site than it used to be. This link will get you to the right page, currently, at least in the USA: https://www.adobe.com/products/catalog/software._sl_id-contentfilter_sl_catalog_sl_software_sl_mostpopular.html You can still get the full ($149) or update ($79 if you have a previous version installed already, you'll need that version's installation code) LR6 packages that way. Note: The download is LR 6.0. To obtain the latest LR v6.8, after installation of LR 6.0 you use the menu option in LR: Help > Updates. The Adobe Application Manager will run and manage the update installation process. (I still have Aperture running on my system (Aperture v3.8 running on macOS Sierra 10.12.3). I never used it much, mostly for the book module in the past, and hardly use it today. Actually, most of Aperture's image editing capabilities remain in Photos now, although the UI and the way it presents the options is almost completely different. I don't use Photos much either. My primary image processing workflow has been through Lightroom since late 2006.) Thank You for all the advices!!!
Ted Lemon Posted March 7, 2017 Share #71 Posted March 7, 2017 Well actually the fault is with you for not getting the license code two years ago. Yes, Digi - I should have downloaded all the extra licenses from my 240/246/Q on my Mac to get the full benefit of my Leica purchases! But thank you for the advice. I believe the TAN code is like a discount code on a net transaction it does not actually link to a software key just an Adobe portal to enable the installer to provide the software. And Shlomo, thank you for this, I saw that post and have already upgraded to 6.8 on my current Mac. The upshot of all this maybe another Adobe LR purchase I will see what Leica says. and thanks for the input guys.

Ted Lemon Posted March 7, 2017 Share #75 Posted March 7, 2017 The way it worked for me in the past was I used the TAN to get a license code from Leica, not Adobe. Then I went to the Adobe site and downloaded the software and simply entered the license code during the install. Well not anymore, unfortunately, but I have fixed it. I used Migration Manager to drop my original LR from my TM backup to my new Mac. I then retrieved my license key numbers from Adobe and inputted those and LR 6.8 working (so far). I think Leica needs to make its users aware that old licenses that were part of the bundled products will not activate the way the process is supposed to work. I contacted Leica and they sent this msg back: The Leica Software Support is not able to assist you in this particular matter. Please be informed that I have forwarded your e-mail to our Adobe Support contact. They will contact you soon. I will let this thread know what Adobe say, if anything, on this matter. I contacted Leica and they sent this msg back: I don't have any issues. As I said, in the past you went to Leica to get a license number, and this license number is all you need to install the software. Its not Leica's fault you waited two years to do this. They made the change to CC a year ago. I saved all my license numbers from the bundled software and they all still work today.

Ted Lemon Posted March 7, 2017 Share #79 Posted March 7, 2017 what was the work around? Adobe issued me a specific license key so I could do the install manually. Basically, this seems the only to redeem the historic standalone LR bundle. They also provided a link to the standalone installer. The current Leica process points you towards a CC installer, which I assume is for the current Leica CC-bundled offer. So the original link is no longer there. You always had to instal it manually with a license key. In the past the only difference was Leica issued the license key via email, I assume Adobe has to do this now since the standalone version is no longer offered from Leica. How did you validate your license, just send the TAN?
