Leicauser7 Posted February 2, 2017 Share #1 Posted February 2, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just received my new camera today. I have capture assistance set to manual. Nothing seems to happen when I push the focus button, i.e., its not giving me a magnified view or showing focus peaking (which is turned on). Am I doing something wrong? Is there a problem with my camera? Is there a problem with the firmware? Thanks for any help. Does the focus button serve any other purpose than for occasional focus peaking? Cliff S Posted February 2, 2017 Share #2 Posted February 2, 2017 Press the button AND rotate the thumb wheel
digitalfx Posted February 2, 2017 Share #3 Posted February 2, 2017 Have to ask the obvious...but are you using LV or the EVF? Push the button firmly...its designed to prevent accidental pushing.
digitalfx Posted February 2, 2017 Share #4 Posted February 2, 2017 Press the button AND rotate the thumb wheel The thumb wheel will cycle thru the 3 view options...maybe you are already zoomed out. The camera will remember your last choice. Also I suggest you try AUTO...works very well and is much faster.
cookedart Posted February 2, 2017 Share #5 Posted February 2, 2017 By default exposure compensation is activated by holding down the focus button and turning the rear dial. I also think by default the focus aid mode is set to automatic which means it will zoom automatically if you turn the focus ring. The focus button by default should also activate the magnification as well so not sure what's going on.
Leicauser7 Posted February 2, 2017 Author Share #6 Posted February 2, 2017 Thanks all. The problem was user error. I was holding the button down, which doesn't work. The button needs to be pushed and released (tapped) and then the focus peaking comes on and works fine. Much appreciate the help.
digitalfx Posted February 2, 2017 Share #7 Posted February 2, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) By default exposure compensation is activated by holding down the focus button and turning the rear dial. The focus button by default should also activate the magnification as well so not sure what's going on. I assume you mean focus magnification. It is enabled by simply pushing the button. The thumb dial only selects one of 3 magnification levels. The camera defaults to the last one selected. So for example if you used 10x last time...each time you push the button 10x will appear first. This is by design and correct. If you last used the focus aid and zoomed out to the unmagnified view (with the thumb wheel- not the shutter release), then it will default to this level next time. This would then require you to use the thumb wheel to select another magnification next time. If you select your preferred magnification level and leave it there, each time you push the button you will get the same results without touching the thumb wheel. chris_tribble Posted February 2, 2017 Share #8 Posted February 2, 2017 Also useful to remember that the focus zoom button is of most use if you're using R lenses which can't activate zoom when focusing.
digitalfx Posted February 2, 2017 Share #9 Posted February 2, 2017 Also useful to remember that the focus zoom button is of most use if you're using R lenses which can't activate zoom when focusing. exactly. For M lenses the "AUTO" function just works. It is extremely fast and well implemented. Id suggest you give it a try before switching to manual. I only use manual for my R lenses and have it set as a profile.
