Printmaker Posted January 23, 2017 Share #21 Posted January 23, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a M10 on order and will probably sell my M9 when it comes back from the hospital with a new sensor transplant. It is tempting to keep my M9 but I also have a Monochrom and don't really need three M bodies. Sure, it is nice working with multiple bodies when you are in a situation where you don't want to change lenses (wind, rain, dust, etc.) but how often does that happen? Okay, I'm finding it frustrating now with my M9 away and wanting to shoot something or someone in color but I'm hoping Leica got it right this time and the M10 will not require 4 month holidays every 3 or 4 years. Advertisement Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Hi Printmaker, Take a look here How many M9 Shooters will upgrade to the M10?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pgk Posted January 23, 2017 Share #22 Posted January 23, 2017 I have 2 x M9s which still deliver stunning results regardless of what anyone says. One will have to irrepairably fail before I replace it but when I do it will probably be with an M10. I really have no complaint about the M9 as a workhorse - mine have delivered consistently and continue to do so.
ramosa Posted January 23, 2017 Share #23 Posted January 23, 2017 My MM1 isn't going anywhere. It's my only current Leica, and it does everything I need. (That said, I'm confident the M10 will please many users!)
Printmaker Posted January 24, 2017 Share #24 Posted January 24, 2017 My MM1 isn't going anywhere... Nor is mine. I continue to be amazed with its results.
stanoops Posted January 24, 2017 Share #25 Posted January 24, 2017 M10 is major tip of the hat to M9 I would like to own one. However, the brass is just starting to show: DSC09784 by unoh7, on Flickr M10 will never look like this. It won't weigh as little. I don't like that big screen in back and dial on the side where I can smash them. ISO is tempting but the M9 will go into any light with CV 35/1.2 or a 50 superspeed. Your DOF is more limited but it works. No denying that is big advantage to M10, as is size, finder, mag, shutter, and possibly lens profiles too. But the M9 delivers. So clean at base ISO. Teaches you to shoot single shots. It's plenty fast for me, even after 250K shots. My second body in thin-filter A7, so I know the difference. I hate editing anyway, so less shots is better. I'm going to upgrade my sony before the M9, because the r2 with some new mod types actually will give me alot more options when there is something extra I need which M9 doesn't. It will do ISO 6400 also, 42mp, Autofocus M well, 4K video, silent shutter, IBIS, shoot any mount, all for about 3200 with the mod and techart AF adapter. I will still shoot more with the M9. Just curious... Your M9 are still on the original shutter after the 250k shots ?
r1chardbwrn Posted January 24, 2017 Share #26 Posted January 24, 2017 As an M8 user I am finally ready to upgrade, and love the idea of being able to shoot above 640 ISO. My M8 will become my budget Monochrom.
orla Posted January 24, 2017 Share #27 Posted January 24, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I will keep my M9 - a classic that will be even more classic - buy an M10 and sell my x pro 2. The latter is a fantastic camera by any standards, but my collection of Leica glass and passion for simplicity makes the case. Best Orjan
d0c0m0 Posted January 24, 2017 Share #28 Posted January 24, 2017 I will keep my M9 because of CCD. Even converted it to the all black/no logo M9-P just last year via Leica NJ when they replaced the sensor. I will keep my Q for the sake of auto focus. I will keep my M-D Type 262. This one is special without the LCD screen and I like the ISO dial on the back!. I guess I can wait for the all black/no logo M10-P ....
pico Posted January 24, 2017 Share #29 Posted January 24, 2017 After my accountant delivers my federal tax return result I might buy two M10 bodies, but I will continue medium format and LF wet work until the unlikely merger of the outcomes. . nikau Posted January 25, 2017 Share #30 Posted January 25, 2017 Count me as one more M9-P and MM1 owner who won't be "upgrading."
hhanebeck Posted January 25, 2017 Share #31 Posted January 25, 2017 FWIW, I saw an M-E in the Leica display case at Dodd Camera in Cleveland last week. I doubt their price will be great, but just passing along in case anyone is looking for a new M-E. Did you find out how much it is by any chance? I am thinking about selling a new one, but have no idea where to put the price.
ringohung Posted February 2, 2017 Share #32 Posted February 2, 2017 I am keeping my beloved M9P black paint, simply love that CCD. However I do have a M10 on order coz I need something faster and works better in high ISO for certain kind of works.
FrozenInTime Posted February 2, 2017 Share #33 Posted February 2, 2017 I'm hanging on to a M9-P until I see how the M10 works out ; but traded in a M9 and MM. I suspect letting go of the MM was a mistake as I really liked it's high ISO grain over any color camera. Once the M10-M appears, that will be the time to decide if the M9-P should stay or go. Leicauser7 Posted February 2, 2017 Share #34 Posted February 2, 2017 I sold my M9 4 years ago. I had planned to purchase the new model and never did (life got in the way). Just started using the M10 yesterday and (admittedly its early going but...) the camera is far superior in just about every respect to my memory of the M9, including color rendition. The m10 renders color reassuringly close to reality whereas the M9 seemed to soup it up. Thats just the impressions of an amateur.
charlesphoto99 Posted February 2, 2017 Share #35 Posted February 2, 2017 M10 owner since last week. Already sold my MM1 (at a ridiculous, somewhat regretful price - oh well, but the market is saturated!) and back up M9 off to Leica to have the sensor checked in prep for sale. My original M9 will stay, even if it remains as just an object of sentimental value (it has 70,000 shots and brassed) as resale would be so low why bother. Thing is, once you shoot the M10 there's no going back. It's just an all round, tighter, more reliable feeling, quieter, faster, usable in more places, etc camera than the M9 (I skipped the 240 gen). I'll be looking forward to an M10M, or maybe a used MM246 in the future. The only thing I miss about the MM is the working practice of shooting b&w only, otherwise the M10 b&w looks very good. Archiver Posted February 3, 2017 Share #36 Posted February 3, 2017 It's undecided for me at this time. The M9, for all its faults, delivers where it counts for me: image quality and look. I'm very happy with how M9 images turn out in Lightroom, especially at low ISO. Talk in other threads is that M10 colours are excellent if using Lightroom 6.8, and that M9 shooters would be pleased with it. But a M10 means several thousand dollars which I'm not comfortable spending right now, and I've still got years (touch wood) of life in the M9. As I said in another thread, the M10 will be just as viable in another few years, just like the M9 and M240 are now. Prices should drop and availability of camera and batteries should be much better. Not what Leica wants to hear, although it does give them a future purchase, haha.
zone7 Posted February 3, 2017 Share #37 Posted February 3, 2017 The features of the M10 appeal to me, but I am so very pleased with the results from my M9's CCD sensor. I find it far better than the results from my Nikon DSLR (D600). It requires far less post-processing, which I like. The M9's lack of high ISO ability is of no consequence to me, for I don't do that kind of photography. So I'll "wait, watch and listen" for now, and make a decision later. otto.f Posted February 3, 2017 Share #38 Posted February 3, 2017 I have my M10 one week now and I can say to ArcIver and zone7 that the colors are beautiful, but the AWB is not flawless. When it comes to artificial light there is a bias towards yellow and sometimes a greenish cast (not from tubes light) which does give postprocessing time (I have to test the artificial light settings itself). So if you don't need the extra options, you don't need to hurry, how beautiful, silent and more all-round I find this camera and how happy I am with it, I won't sell my M9. As Erwin Puts said, to be the perfect M it is still a bit too heavy. (The M9 weighs less and I find it a bit odd that modern batteries can't be smaller and more lightweight)
Archiver Posted February 3, 2017 Share #39 Posted February 3, 2017 @otto.f - the M10 is still heavier than the M9? Which means it is heavier than the M7? Is it noticeably heavier in the hand/on the shoulder?
Ecaton Posted February 3, 2017 Share #40 Posted February 3, 2017 No "upgrade" here. A M10 based M262 successor might tempt me with the technical improvements of the M10 coupled with lower weight. I am still hoping one day Leica will offer a 500 gram FF RF allowing to build a real compact and lightweight FF travel system when coupled with some of the smaller M-lenses.
