Good question - it's not on the original file, I can only assume something happened during the upload.

Blown up, those stripes are jpeg artifacts. Vertical stacks of 8x8-pixel compression blocks, in which neighboring blocks are variably smoothed, or turned into gradients, or had the noise speckles compressed differentially, making the edges of the 8-pixel-wide stacks visible side by side.

Needs a higher jpeg quality setting (less compression, larger file size) when converting for web display, to eliminate those. And paying attention to the Forum's limits - because the Forum software will also recompress the file if it too large (data size, not dimensions).

Look at this enlarged crop from that image at normal viewing distance to see the 8x8 squares. Then stand back a meter/3 feet to see how the smoothing or intermittent noise reduction in each square creates the appearance of vertical stripes.

The clear striping only shows up in the out-of-focus areas of the picture - in the focused areas, the "real" detail hides the jpeg banding.

Good to know, Adan, thanks for sharing your thoughts

Since it's happened only this time and not in the previous 100's of posts, and my export settings haven't changed in a long time, I'll treat this as a freak one-off

My website will be up soon and henceforth I will link to the images instead of uploading here directly

This is the APO 135 f/3.4 at night at ISO 2500 1/60th hand-held. I bought this lens recently as I had the older non-APO one. It's a real joy for details, although only practical with the digital viewfinder.
