fotografr Posted January 21, 2017 Share #1 Posted January 21, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Initially, between 10,000 and 20,000 were expected for the march in Madison. The last official estimate I heard was 75,000 to 100,000 and still counting. VL114 Welcome, dear visitor! erl Posted January 21, 2017 Share #2 Posted January 21, 2017 As a document, the images are momentus. It makes me wonder how Americans got it so wrong, IMO. And the same marches are happening world wide. Now we all have to live with the result. Let's hope it works, somehow.
fotografr Posted January 21, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted January 21, 2017 Thanks much. I am also at a loss to explain what happened, except that a lot of Americans just don't bother to vote so the result is that about one fourth of the eligible voters ended up selecting this president. I detest that. In my opinion people who don't bother to exercise their right to participate should just pack up and leave. There's plenty of room for them in countries which don't allow people to have free elections.
NB23 Posted January 21, 2017 Share #4 Posted January 21, 2017 Is this another anti Trump thing? Or might I underline: another anti-democratic parade? Yawn

What makes you so sure that hillary deserved to win? Only because you voted for her? Don't get me wrong, I am not american. And as a non-american I am amazed by how quick you guys are at spitting on fredom of speech and democracy, which are supposedly sacred american values. Quite pathetic if you ask me. It's important to remember that Trump lost the popular vote. This normally means that the new President considers this when making policy. Marching shows the new government that people are unhappy, it won't change the outcome but it might temper it. Also not American.

Henry Taylor Posted January 22, 2017 Share #8 Posted January 22, 2017 Many got it wrong because they were believing what the polls and media were reporting. Sorry guys just suck it up and wait 8 more years, Trump will be reelected; and this time don't vote for another politician who has no experience in running a business. war Posted January 22, 2017 Share #9 Posted January 22, 2017 Is this another anti Trump thing? Or might I underline: another anti-democratic parade? Yawn By what standard are you judging us. In our country there is nothing anti-democratic about demonstrating, it is in fact our RIGHT to peaceably assemble to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. james.liam Posted January 22, 2017 Share #12 Posted January 22, 2017 It's important to remember that Trump lost the popular vote. This normally means that the new President considers this when making policy. Marching shows the new government that people are unhappy, it won't change the outcome but it might temper it. Also not American. American national elections aren't plebiscites. The Electoral College was devised as a way to force the election to be contested in every individual state; each of whom have far greater autonomy than counties, regions or districts within European nations and are often larger than entire countries. They also have developed different political and social cultures with the passage of time. By design, this electoral mechanism is meant to prevent parochial & regional dominance in a Continental nation. It isn't perfect but only infrequently conflicts with the popular vote. Paradoxically, It also acts to amplify a winner when more that 2 candidates run. Whereas Trump captured 46% of the popular vote, Bill Clinton won but 43% in his initial election and Abraham Lincoln, a paltry 39%. Trump won majorities in 30 states whereas Hillary did so in only 19 (with one splitting the electors based on the proportion of votes cast). The mechanism of preventing regional or partisan dominance in parliamentary democracies frequently manifests in the low threshold for inclusion of minor parties that often paralyze nations instead of preventing one-party rule. Italy being a perfect example of this. In the end, pick your poison. Or as Churchill once purportedly said, "democracy is the worst form of government, except for all others." NB23 Posted January 22, 2017 Share #13 Posted January 22, 2017 Neither really. Do not believe you are insulated, protected. His bad behavior has global consequences. . As far as I know, he hasn't bombed anyone yet (and zero deaths). So what extreme behaviour are you talking about? But let's wait for his first war. Then you'll all be pleased with him. And hos second war? Youmll love him, I promise. Yaaaawn.
