menos I M6 Posted July 26, 2013 Share #1532 Posted July 26, 2013 which Carl Zeiss you used on S2? I think most, if not all of this series is with the Carl Zeiss 80 2 Planar in Contax 645 mount. menos I M6 Posted July 27, 2013 Share #1535 Posted July 27, 2013 Nice stuffs. I still prefer MF instead. I have some serious issues, getting to know to focus super fast glass on a ground glass quick enough to catch action. focussing a Leica M with fast glass is a piece of cake though. The beauty about the Zeiss Contax lenses is, they are exactly as the S lenses full time manual focus override - you can grab the silky focus ring anytime and manually focus (which is the way to go, when shooting fast moving stuff with the S, as I am about to understand. JeffoJeffo Posted July 27, 2013 Share #1538 Posted July 27, 2013 Hi Dirk, Of course if can use the AF as S lens is very ideal. For me I still feel that using a Leica shroud be MF @@ otherwise any othe brand is much master n easier to use. Also, most of my lenses can use adaptor to use S system's AF function. I have a Haseel 30-90 with adaptor to S. use it few times. Doesn't like the feeling of it. I might go to Shanghai in Sept. lets meet up n review this together. ^^
menos I M6 Posted July 28, 2013 Share #1539 Posted July 28, 2013 Wonderful shots, Dirk. (Uh-oh, I feel an S2 itch starting.) Pete. Pete, for me, it was not an itch. I was 100% clear with myself, that M bodies and mostly vintage lenses and occasionally mixing in medium format film for the special shots are what suits me fine. It was then more than a year ago, when I handled a S2 + 70mm for 10-20 minutes in a shop, which was up for sale at a back then very, very competitive price. I still found the actual costs to obtain and use the S system outrageously high and thought, I would never use one. It was only by the accident that happened, when I visited (the same) shop again a few months ago, when the owner finally got me into a deal with a body for a way too good price to not go for it. I didn't feel like spending money for it though and just swapped a bag full of redundant M glass for it. The first weeks with the S2 have been very difficult, as this is not just a PS camera, you unwrap use happily - you have to work really hard in the beginning to understand the camera and how it doesn't work to find out, what it can do for you - I will be a bloody beginner with it for a long time coming, that's for sure. For me it is now clear though - it's the perfect medium format for what I want such a system to be working in sync with a compact 35mm system. .280 f/4 APO-Telyt-R with M240. Very nice! I can appreciate good shots with long glass - not as easy as some people think. Hi Dirk, Of course if can use the AF as S lens is very ideal. Shooting the S2 in AF with lenses, that can actually manage (the 70/2.5 is the prime sample for this) gives an accuracy, I could never attain by manually focussing this lens (I also installed the micro prism screen - one of my first upgrades for the legacy glass). The AF with the Contax lenses is respectable and works well (not as fast or precise as with the S lenses, but again within it's limits a very, very useful tool - people actually comment, that the focussing is faster than it ever was on the Contax 645 body!). Give me a message when you visit - I am very, very interested, how the Hasselblad H lenses work with the adapter and am even contemplating, adding this adapter and some key lenses as well at some point. As a change of topic - not sure, if I had this up here already: the evolution of my favourite 35mm lens design - the famous W-Nikkor 3.5 f1.8 from the late 1940's on the right, inspiring the Konica optical engineers for the development of the original Konica Hexar lens (centre) and finally culminating into the limited edition Konica 35/2 UC-Hexanon LTM, my current favourite 35mm lens on a Leica RF (it seems to be just the perfect balance of all positives in such a design): evolution of the perfect 35mm - W-Nikkor - Hexar - UC-Hexanon by teknopunk.com, on Flickr This shot is taken also with an "old" lens (as not in production anymore) - the 120 f4 Carl Zeiss Apo-Makro-Planar in Contax 645 mount - also a lens with legendary status.
