Mmm... probably true in this case. However, the (roughly) contemporary Vulcan bombers went for less budget-friendly Dallmeyer Super-Six lenses. At least the business was awarded to a local manufacturer... They sometimes appear at auctions in the UK - usually in poor condition.

Thanks Ecar, another interesting rabbit hole to emerge from.

The Pentax seems to go for around £30 these days, the Dallmeyer Super-Six with attached radar display camera around 100 times more.

Nice photo btw.

Given enough time and digging efforts, some rabbit holes can turn into endless, meandering galleries. Lenses, for example...😂

From the 'forgotten lenses' drawer. This one is rather recent but appears to have been discontinued a couple of years ago.
The first 7a rangefinder lens and a 7e/6g Sonnar inspired design (the reason why I bought it in the first place - and the fact that it was very cheap...).
As with other 7a lenses, focus can be DIY-adjusted (a neat feature) and the early production copies came 6-bit coded (as a Noctilux) before Leica presumably asked its manufacturer to 'cease and desist'.
It took some flak on this forum and elsewhere not just because it was made in China, but perhaps also because people expected it to be a lower-cost alternative to fast Cosina lenses with a 'modern' rendering. If you get a good copy and are after a somewhat 'vintage' rendering, it's actually a pretty competent lens, esp. on post-M240 sensors where the edges are markedly better behaved. Below are a few forgettable but hopefully illustrative shots for reference.

And while I'm at it, here are a couple from another lens from the same manufacturer that was also discontinued not long ago and replaced by a "better performing" version.
This one is a Sonnar based 7e/5g design, while the current 'Mk II' or 'Wen' version boasts an entirely different 8e/7g optical diagram.
Some of the main flaws (eg, red edges) that may have led to its early demise seem to have almost disappeared with the newer sensor.

2018 DJ-Optical 7artisans 35/2 v1, first two @ f/5.6 on the M240 (some red edges removed in post) and last wide open on the M11 (early morning light but no edge correction needed)
