Lenshacker Posted January 22, 2015 Share #2301 Posted January 22, 2015 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I've been picking up a couple of Minolta lenses in Leica mount of late, just added the 8.5cm F2.8. This lens is stated to be 5 elements in 3 groups, 3-1-1 configuration. Focus is perfect on my M Monochrom. Wide-open, Test: Minolta 8.5cm F2.8 Test: Minolta 8.5cm F2.8 This lens uses 40mm filters and hoods, same as the Canon 50/1.5 and 50/1.8. I used an 85C color correction filter, much like a light orange filter. This lens is fashioned after the Elmar 9cm F4, heavy brass and chrome. A 4-digit Serial Number, less than 5000. Must be about 1950 vintage. Edited January 22, 2015 by Lenshacker

Lenshacker Posted January 26, 2015 Share #2304 Posted January 26, 2015 My "other 1950 J-3 made from a Z eiss Sonnar". This one was also a can-of-worms, held in the Contax mount with sewing string. Glass transplanted to a Leica mount J-3. Wide-open on the M9, ISO2500 Skate and Fun Skate and Fun My Theory- both of these 1950 J-3's, and a couple of others that I've worked on, were "assembly practice". Neither could be used on their intended cameras, and both have perfect glass. I suspect they were never used, until being rebuilt Now- each is as good as my original wartime Sonnar. What's this all mean? J-3's with perfect glass usually require a lot of work to be usable, but it's worth the effort.
farnz Posted February 1, 2015 Author Share #2305 Posted February 1, 2015 I'd just like to point out that this thread has now been viewed 200,000 times, which is so far beyond my expectation when I started it that I'm utterly amazed. Long may it endure and please continue to post your wonderful pictures made with older glass. Pete.

Guest JMF Posted February 8, 2015 Share #2310 Posted February 8, 2015 (edited) Testing a Nikkor W 35 1.8 S mount M modified on the MM with grim humored commuters , off the hip ! It's not a really old lens per se yet a 2005 model re-issued with the Nikkor SP and thus worth sharing here IMHO !
