Advertisement Posted April 10, 2024 Posted April 10, 2024 Hi 01af, Take a look here Help Me Understand Why Photographic Paper Isn't 1:1.5 Ratio?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Mr.Prime Posted April 18, 2024 Share #22 Posted April 18, 2024 (edited) I used to worry that cropping was a sign of bad framing / technique but now I see it as another part of the creating process. This means being free to crop to any ratio I see fit that brings out the best in the image according to my taste. I don't feel restricted in doing so. I happen to have a hybrid workflow where I no longer use wet paper but I don't think it needs to be a limitation whether wet printed or hybrid. I would make the print using paper you have that minimizes waste, but crop anyhow you see fit. For framing, you may need to make a custom border, so if you are able to cut your own borders you are good to go. And maybe you images would stand out from the crowd with a custom ratio? Of course, I am my own client, I have no paying-master or web-designer to constrain me (and no museum will be looking for my work!!!). Danner Posted April 19, 2024 Share #23 Posted April 19, 2024 A higher aspect ratio, say greater than 1.5:1, has a more modern look to my eye. Often, I split 8x10 to make two 8x5 (1.6:1) sheets, or split 11x14 to make 7x11 (1.57:1) sheets.
