Tim Hogendoorn Posted January 1, 2017 Share #1 Posted January 1, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi guys! Some time ago I bought a minty Leica M4.2 (early edition) and it seemed just fine the last couple of weeks. Yesterday I developed a roll where I shot Tri-X at 1600, I used the 1/1000 of a second for the very first time with film loaded and this is wat happened to the negative (check the attachment). Does this mean the camera needs to be CLA'ed (400/500 euros) or could it be a minor issue? Thanks in advance! Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 Hi Tim Hogendoorn, Take a look here Leica M4.2 half exposed frame. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
TomB_tx Posted January 1, 2017 Share #2 Posted January 1, 2017 Shutter capping - the 2nd curtain moving faster than the first and catching it before the 1st gets across the frame. It should have a CLA to cure it properly by cleaning the bearings and lubing correctly. Some will "fix" by changing the spring tension to compensate, but this can cause other problems. After a good clean and re-lube, adjustment should start with timing the curtain speed and setting that correctly for both curtains, then fine tuning to get even exposure across the frame. earleygallery Posted January 4, 2017 Share #3 Posted January 4, 2017 As above. It's an issue with buying mint old cameras - they've not been used much and that often means lubricants have dried up and other problems associated with lack of use can come up. Time for a CLA.
