I originally has my heart set on the Silver one, but after seeing all the cameras on this thread I can't decide between Silver or Black! Suggestions? lol I've been feeling the same internal debate. I had more or less decided on the black, as more lenses would match it, and it's less conspicuous. But, I've fully concluded to get the silver as it simply looks better and I don't want to need to deal with brassing. Yes I know it's desirable to many, but I don't want it on my camera. Hi I find people, girls especially are more nervous, about black cameras than chrome... When they detect it is a camera lots of them go into starlet mode... thetoaster Posted November 9, 2010 Share #1846 Posted November 9, 2010 Good point.... I had been thinking about that too. Basically keeping an open heart about my photos and my subject, and not be fearful and desiring to not be noticed.
Xmas Posted November 9, 2010 Share #1847 Posted November 9, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Good point.... I had been thinking about that too. Basically keeping an open heart about my photos and my subject, and not be fearful and desiring to not be noticed. Yes good thinking. If you are walking in the opposite direction to people, they will detect the camera, but when they identify it is a camera they will relax, a lot or a bit. If you tail gate some one walking in the same direction then this delays the line of sight and reaction and they may not see the strange object in your hand... I keep the camera at waist or elbow level, and look over the shoulder of the person I'm following. Unless an area has a high ambient noise people will detect even the quietest M fabric shutter, and although the Canon P has a metal shutter it does not seem any more or less detectable, to subjects, whereas a Canon QL III 1.7 between the lens shutter is quieter, and normally not noticed, but I rarely use it (the 40mm lens on it is not wide enough for me). Most people don't react to the shutter noise say 1 in 500 may react, but when they detect it is a film camera they normally go away... Some people want their photo taken, I normally tell them it is a film camera and too difficult, to e-mail. Some people say I've taken their photo but normally they are wrong, and they go away. But note only I take photos of affluent tourists, slumming it in local street markets, so they are never very protective. I've had most problems with TV and cine crews teams, especially French ones, I take shots when they are not running sound so they have no reason to be offended, but they are. Speakers Corner people tends to be reactive, and not just to photo people, the corner has gone very strange of late, so that sharpie and cartridge paper artist don't attend any more. Unless you are thick skinned I'd not go there. If some one winds you up the adeline spike will mean you need to use a higher shutter speed, for the rest of the day. Xmas Posted November 9, 2010 Share #1849 Posted November 9, 2010 wow I thought it'd be easier to notice a chrome body then a black one It is a lot easier to detect the chrome body, but they then seem to identify it is a camera more easily, the black bodies are more stealthy and they seem to take longer to identify them as cameras, after they detect them. Not many people are that familiar with M rfdrs.... And I know DSLRs are mainly black. You may have more luck than me, with a MP - I'm using M2 and M4(-2), I thought black would be better too. it is mainly girls who are cautious. thetoaster Posted November 9, 2010 Share #1850 Posted November 9, 2010 wow I thought it'd be easier to notice a chrome body then a black one I think the message is that the chrome body is less suspect, and more friendly.
JBA Posted November 10, 2010 Share #1851 Posted November 10, 2010 My experience of shooting on the streets of Tokyo is that the type of camera or color doesn't make a damned bit of difference as to how subjects react, if they even notice.

farnz Posted November 10, 2010 Share #1853 Posted November 10, 2010 (edited) What do you people use for light meter with the MP? The MP's built-in light meter usually. In tricky conditions a Sekonic L-608 for incident and 1 degree or 4 degree spot metering. Pete. Edited November 10, 2010 by farnz
Clearlight Posted November 10, 2010 Share #1854 Posted November 10, 2010 I use the camera's meter usually. Occasionally, I use a handheld.

Terry Kelly Posted November 11, 2010 Share #1856 Posted November 11, 2010 Weston Master V as a check for important stuff, otherwise the camera. I find that film is forgiving enough to compensate Regards Terry
aesop Posted November 11, 2010 Share #1857 Posted November 11, 2010 What do you people use for light meter with the MP? Dan ...the built-in light meter suffices for me. Understanding what you are metering for is important. Ditto the output of the meter. Simple, really.
