Yep, it's a Leica grip and the tripod thread is in the middle. The head is a Really Right Stuff ballhead. The RRS QR plate is specific for the Leica grip so it is solid enough for verticals.

They also make a QR plate that screws into the off centre tripod thread on the M baseplate and then extends along the base plate to help with mounting the camera centrally.

Hi David

Thanks

I've got a vamera/base plate clamp from 40 years ago which is ugly and heavy, but it centres the cameras centre of gravity over the tripod, either horizontally or vertically, so I'd not want the grip other than as a grip.

Don't know if I need one.

Noel.

Hi,

I thought this thread needed a bump - it has nearly slipped off page One!

I've been looking for years for a .58 MP and suddenly two appear in London at once. One is enough for now and joins my little M family very happily. I'm off to Bruges tomorrow for a couple of days to give it a whirl.

The family is ready to travel; but I think this time the M8 gets to stay home. A film only trip!

Actually, I stand corrected -- maybe it isn't: I've just looked and the one I was looking at is still there, although rather over-priced imo...

Yes, Alun, that's the other one and quite a bit dearer than mine. However if mine hadn't appeared when it did, I'm not sure that I wouldn't have had to fork out the extra!

Just back from my Bruges trip and will be sending off the film tomorrow. Sadly the weather was very cold and grey and I was shooting Delta 100. If there is anyting worth sharing I'll post as soon as I can.

Really enjoying this lovely camera. Even next to my previous favourite the M6ttl it operates just that important bit more smoothly and somehow less obtrusively.

The long wait was worth it.

That's a nice bunch of gear Tim.

Thanks, David. Sorry for my weak moment showing off! I was just really pleased to get my .58 MP after so long!

I hope that I have all the gear I need for the moment, but you never know! I'm sure my dealer hopes not. It is thanks to him that I have the MP - best Leica dealer (IMO) in London! And I get a cup of tea and a biscuit when I call in!

Bumpy-bump to the top we go!

Bought the BP MP off of a fellow forum user (thanks Jan!). Just got it back from Solms today and now the MP looks just like it should have from the very beginning. Also had the 0.72 finder masked so it only shows 35, 50 and 90 framelines. I have a 28 'cron, but felt that the 28mm framlines were kind of pointless.

Unfortunately, here's a little bit of rant: during the application of the vulcanite material, the cover seems to have torn a bit around one of the strap lugs. It seems that instead of changing the whole cover, an attempt to fix the tear was made (glue). But the glue doesn't hold up, so now there's a flap.

Shame shame shame on Leica quality control. I noticed this almost immediately after I unpacked the camera. I've been without the camera for a month now, and I have to send it back? Not the happiest camper right now...

Alas...my MP has arrived. I found this one from a forum member as well and I could not be happier. The body is in mint condition and the Lens is a 35mm Summicron loaner form a M user buddy of mine here in the city. I still need to decide on my glass. My 1st 3 rolls are at the lab now...almost forgot how costly film can be. Thinking to invest in a scanner down the line. Here she is. (Shot taken with a RED ONE :p )
