(I ask because I still have my eye on a chrome MP 0.58 I've seen -- the must-have finder for me and my glasses -- which is not *quite* as expensive as one might anticipate....). But, really: three??? One thing I've learned about that shop is that if you see something you like and choose to mull it over for a while, you can almost guarantee that it will have sold the day you finally decide to buy it. I've certainly saved lots of cash by taking that approach Add my name to the watchers of that one, the M7 0.58 BP at Aperture went so quickly I didn't even have time to enjoy thinking of owning it. I think three bodies is the ideal kit, not to use all the time but to have on hand. Last Sunday, I photographed a festival that happens only once every three years. About 100 people carried a giant omikoshi (portable shrine) around the neighborhood for about an hour. I photographed it using three bodies (MP, M6, R8) with a 35, 50, 90 combination and shot three rolls of film, one in each camera. Things moved quickly and it was fairly crowded, so changing lenses would have been impractical. Having three bodies allowed me to concentrate completely on shooting rather than fumbling with gear. I've never seen MPs priced cheaper than these, especially new and unused, so not buying them before someone else did struck me as foolish. It wouldn't be difficult to sell one or both at a profit, though what I intend to do is consolidate my kit down to these three. Being a black camera guy, yes, I do think the chrome is a bit conspicuous, but it's growing on me. I find it an interesting comment from someone who was just recently mulling a titanium M6, but that's neither here nor there. I wanted an 0.85 and the one I found happened to be chrome and priced to sell. I'd gladly cash in the new BP MP on an 0.58, but the chances of finding one are slim. It might be better to send the one I have to Leica and have it converted. Then it would make more sense to have three bodies. Anyhow, I don't deny it's an extravagance. [...] JBA, (1) I find two bodies/two lenses ideal, personally, for working fast-moving things like events and festivals, but lugging the extra weight of another body would for me be a problem -- I have a serious spinal problem (it doesn't work very well!)... In my experience both are reliable describers. You can no doubt understand why I don't want to lug around the motor-driven R8 with Canadian made 90 Summicron as even a second, much less third, body. 2) The what thread?? That thing seems tailor-made for toting around Leica gear. And I discovered today that Travel Zone (or at least the Croydon branch) has them on sale for £19.99.
