ddp Posted January 14, 2009 Share #861 Posted January 14, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) At the risk of bringing the world down around my ears, can I also say that I find those black paint MPs just too....shiny.... And less than inconspicuous. (OK, yes, I'll admit that if I could find a black paint 0.58 I'd buy it!) Generally, though, there's something about the black chrome finish that to me is just more in keeping with an industrial design aesthetic... Shiny when new, but my bp MP3 is starting to get a bit more "beat up" I suppose. I have a 1966 SS M3 in chrome which I would have to say has such a classic look to it, just fantastic. I still have a weird desire for the Ralph Gibson MP....definitely an acquired taste. http://www.ralphgibson.com/boutique/camera-full.jpg

antistatic Posted January 14, 2009 Share #862 Posted January 14, 2009 I find those black paint MPs just too....shiny.... And less than inconspicuous. Yep that shiny paint could startle wildlife and small children. There, I took the bait.

Don't worry, if you use your BPMP enough, it'll get scuffed up and beat up enough to lose the gloss.
wakewood Posted January 18, 2009 Share #864 Posted January 18, 2009 after reading so much about the black paint ones I like to show a silver one with the for me most suitable lens, the mechanically astounding 2/50 50years edition. asianhombre Posted January 18, 2009 Share #865 Posted January 18, 2009 This is absolutely beautiful. Brassing adds something so alluring to the camera. The aging of a black paint leica perfectly describes the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi. Your are lucky to own this piece, and If you "earned" the wearing yourself, all the better. As soon as I can afford it, I'm changing my M6 for an MP.

An M3 like that, only body, is around 10.000 Euro, I guess. Perhaps my MP3 will look like that in a few vears... Greetings, Philip

JBA Posted January 19, 2009 Share #872 Posted January 19, 2009 I think the MP's paint is quite tough. Mine gets a lot of use but still isn't showing much brassing except for the tip of the wind lever, above the strap lugs and some minor chips on the edges of the bottom plate. Other than that, it's showing a few more superficial scratches on the top plate. Very slowly it's becoming more seasoned.
newsgrunt Posted January 20, 2009 Share #873 Posted January 20, 2009 Just got my first MP this week. Been thinking about getting one ever since I tried one out in a camera store last year. Camera will be naked, only leather it will see will be the strap 21 Elmarit w/finder and black paint Rapidwinder underneath. Vintage Kodak waist pack which was first introduced at the '88 Calgary Olympics (not this one, those have Olympic rings on the flap) Too bad it doesn't take Ixmoo cassettes, I have a bunch which can only be used in my M6 now. newsgrunt Posted January 20, 2009 Share #875 Posted January 20, 2009 Newsgrunt - welcome to the club and enjoy the MP. Thanks MPerson. It's going to take a bit of getting used to with the two different Ms. I find the advance on the MP snaps back much faster and firmer than the M6. As well, I'll have to run through a lot of film before deciding on a rewind lever or not. I like the idea of using rewind time to think about what has been photographed and what is still ahead. I'm just glad they reverted to the old school shutter dial and direction.
abrewer Posted January 21, 2009 Author Share #876 Posted January 21, 2009 Welcome, grunt I thought I'd want the winder (and the Leicavit also) when I first bought, but it's much more fun...relaxing...contemplative even...to simply and patiently wind on the knurled knob
amoebahydra Posted January 21, 2009 Share #877 Posted January 21, 2009 I love my MP too... a Hammertone version with matching Hammertone Summicron-M 1:2/35 ASPH and Leicavit.

JBA Posted January 25, 2009 Share #879 Posted January 25, 2009 I love my MP 'cause it's tough! Dropped it, stove in the lens hood, put a ding above the right strap lug and some brassing above the finder. The camera doesn't seem to think it was any big deal. Welcome, dear visitor!
