This is madness!!! My lord what a beauty!
Where do you hide the serial number?

Where was the repaint done?

Inspired by this beauty of JMF, here is my copycat:

A beauty. I hope you did not cannibalized a whole Millennium for the frame counter…

No. Mine is just a copycat. Most of the parts are repainted, not original Leica black painted parts.

I’m still kicking myself for not buying the MP Hammertone kit (body, 35 and Leicavit) for AUD $8,500 when I had the chance (in around 2004). My favourite MP variant. Enjoy!

A bit late answer.

Real Vulcanite (not on any modern MP) is something else in pleasure of contact with hands.

We can have this real vulcanite only on older Leica M (and some Leica LTM).

As old time M user, I'm certain that this kind of contact (when hot/cold/rainy weather) counts a lot.

As contradiction, when I used MP for many years, the "slippy" leatherette cover of first models that was the closest to original vulcanite (slippier while wet though).

Picked up today after a couple days of thinking if I should get the black or chrome one.

Cheers,

I purchased a MP in Feb, 2024, and enjoy it.  But I have enjoyed all the Leica’s I have owned.  I am surprised by how soft the black paint finish is.  I rubbed a few black paint Nikon F’s raw back in the day but I do not remember the black paint on them being as soft as the current finish on the MP.

My other film Leica was a 50 year old black chrome M4.  It was mint and not soft at all.  I think I just read that Leica is no longer using a black chrome finish due to environmental concerns.  I am looking at a used M11 and the camera is available in both chrome and black finish.
