I'm back ... after a few years away from film

The prices! When I last bought an M6 it was £850, now they are £2-3k. What happened ! Now I feel stupid for selling them. Anyway at that price there is no point buying an M6 anymore, might as well get the MP. Too many advantages to mention - although one I will mention is the smoother speed dial, all my M6 were really notchy. It's a beauty. The problem is not to stare at it but to take pictures ;)

The M6 seems to have doubled in price every 4-5 years. Now the old screw 35mm Elmar and Summaron lenses seem to have doubled in the last 18 months !

Yes, I bought an M6 TTL only 5 years ago for that same price!

Anyway, here's my recent addition after drooling over BP MPs for years

That silver chrome finish looks wonderful. I have decided to buy myself an MP for my 60th birthday next month, but am having a struggle deciding between the two finishes! I have a chrome M2 and a black chrome M10. What to do...!

Seems like there’s one finish you have yet to own!

The black paint is just stunning… and if you have a black paint lens too… well, even Darth Vader would be jealous!

I ordered a Chrome MP in 2021. My Leica dealership only got a Black Paint in and offered it to me. I have never been happier. Get the BP.

For me, as well as the the silver looking more beautiful (its just a camera man, get a grip 😀 ) the silver can go with black and silver lenses, but the black only goes with black lenses, so more choice.

I particularly like the Voigtlander mixed metals. Just bought the 28mm f2 ultron type 1. Looking fwd to see what is looks like on the camera

I have a BP MP .58, just because that is the finish that was available at that time.  But the silver is gorgeous too, and when I look at my M3 in it’s standard silver chrome, there is just something so classic and elegant about the look.  The original intention of black cameras was for photo journalism/news reportage to make them more discrete.

I have changed the skin on my M3 to a blue leather because the old vulcanite crumbled, and if you are into that sort of thing a silver body goes really well with so many different colours, while IMO a black body only looks good with black leather.  So when I look at a silver MP I just think that would look great with an olive green skin, or a Hermes medium brown, or…

Is there a chapter about the Leica MP?

Ha, I just notice that I answered in the wrong thread, but now you say it, I think a lot of what happens In the Leica forum has to do with trauma. For some of us to much of GAS could be maybe nothing else than compensating?

I think this is very true, at least for me.  There is a sense of relief when I force myself to unload gear!  It comes with the realization of why do I even have ‘that’?

Well some of us like to take pictures. The reason we like nice kit, and not a beaten up Canon T60, is because sometimes the journey is as enjoyable as the destination 😉
